Purchase options and add-ons

There's more to Nevada than one-armed bandits, cheap buffets and Elvis impersonators and this book proves it. Roadside History of Nevada leads readers across the not-so-lifeless desert, visiting long-forgotten boom-and-bust mining towns, quirky roadside stops, and the intrigues of the real Las Vegas. With a historian's nose for detail and a traveler's sense of fun, Richard Moreno presents a myriad of memorable tales of Nevada's places and people. Illuminating the text are 140 photographs, plus a detailed map for each section. From Paiutes to pioneers and from dams to divorce seekers, Roadside History of Nevada reveals the Silver State's history in all its luster.

I enjoy writing about history, particularly related to the West and the wonderful state of Nevada. Fortunately, I've been able to do so in several books including "Frontier Fake News," "Mysteries and Legends of Nevada," "A Short History of Carson City, Nevada," "The Roadside History of Nevada," and "A Short History of Reno, Nevada."

In 2007, I was honored to receive the Nevada Writer's Hall of Fame's Silver Pen Award, which recognizes emerging or mid-career writers who have shown substantial achievement in their work and a demonstrated connection with Nevada in either their subject matter or by living in the state.

For nearly a decade, I lived in the state of Illinois (to teach) and published three books about the Land of Lincoln, including "Illinois Curiosities," "It Happened in Illinois" and "Myths and Mysteries of Illinois."

I'm working on a number of new writing projects and will share news about them when they are closer to publication.
