Intriguing

Overall I liked the show. The only difficulty I had with this season was the very first few episodes. After the fifth or sixth episode the quality of the teleplays improved. It took a while to understand and become vested in the characters...but I came to care very much about them. Given the context of the culture I also came to appreciate their job of keeping the peace (including the good, bad & ugly).

Watching the artistic representations of the justice systems of other cultures is very enlightening to me. It is very easy to spend the entire time "judging" the show based on how our system works...I try to take it all in and learn something by comparing & contrasting the two systems instead.

I would give this first season 31/2 stars and the second and third seasons 4 stars. I hope Amazon acquires the rights to season 4. If the show was renewed it should be showing in Finland right now.

The show does not automatically show with subtitles so you have to select the "CC" or "subtitle" button on your television at the beginning of your first episode. That turns it on for the entire series. If you are watching using an older smart blu-ray player the subtitle button may not work (I tried watching on older technology and no luck).

A Finnish 19-2...if you watched the Canadian series 19-2 you will love this show...discovered foreign TV a couple of years ago and found many very well done shows...in fact a lot of the foreign shows surpass the American TV series...did a subtitle tweak on Amazon settings to reflect a beautiful teal color with a cursive script...this adds to the ability to red the subtitles more rapidly and after a bit you get to where you do not miss any of the show because your eyes are trained to scan and retain what the dialog is and still focus on the actors and the scene...

Excellent Police drama set in Finland with English subtitles

Excellent program with good story lines, acting and character development. In Finnish with English subtitles that worked flawlessly. A great opportunity to see Finland through the eyes of the Fins. Wish there were more than 3 seasons available. Cudos to Amazon for making this available. Hopefully Amazon will bring more Foreign mystery, drama and police shows to Prime

Wow

Wow, is this ever good. The writing is stupendous. The acting excellent and the directing as well.

The subtitles (which don't ordinarily bother me) make for rough going. A lot of reading and trying to see what's what as well, but I adapted quickly and once the story reached out and grabbed me, I didn't care about the reading.

Some very moving stuff. Some thought-provoking. What's right, what's wrong. What matters.

This is a really good series.

Glad that a) Prime has it and b) Prime has all 3 seasons.

pretty dark subject matter but the humor is a nice

Based upon the first five episodes: Gripping series, vivid scripting and compelling cinematography, well developed characters whose behaviors are complex and very interesting; pretty dark subject matter but the humor is a nice, light touch. The culture of the environment is well presented and not very likable but apparently realistic and engagingly conveys the dichotomy of civilian vs. law enforcement life experience. Well done. Can't wait to watch the rest.

Okay, Fine
Roba is the first Finnish tv series I have viewed. I am a fan of Scandinavian police procedurals, and this is one of the best. This series follows an entire team or precinct, as we think of in the US. This team has memorable characters that work well together, understanding their goals and practice. The storyline takes place in Helsinki.

The characters, the police team, is what keeps this series moving along, and it also brings us the best in acting. Thecstory lines are always pertinent, and there is always a larger storyline that persists throughout each series. There are three series, and the first gives us an introduction to the characters. We get to know them. We see what they are misusing or what they do not say. I have to say the po,iceman who always has a coffee cup even out on patrol is irritating, but it does dstinguish him. The amount of caffeine 5hat man consumes is overwhelming.

This is the cast:
Kari Hietalahti – Seargent Arto Mäkelä
Aarni Kivinen – Chief Inspector Heikki "Hessu" Rantaniva (series 1–2)
Aku Hirviniemi – Police Officer Jani Sjöberg
Leena Pöysti – Police Officer Maikki Kurkela
Riku Nieminen – Police Officer Pekka Myllymies
Mari Perankoski – Detective Elina Sinisalo
Ilari Johansson – Detective Markus Uusitalo
Rauno Ahonen – Service Duty Officer, Seargent Niilo Kobra
Tiina Lymi – Chief Inspector Taru Valtonen Series 2-3

Excellent tv series.

Great look at Finnland Police Drama series
Reminds of the great series The Shield... minus a couple points, but yes a compelling police series and extra point for production values being good as far back as 2012 for the first season.
Someone said the males were cucks and PC women wear the pants and have the brains... Not.
It is true the male cops come off as penis-brains but for the most part redeem themselves as sincerely doing their best in ways that females could only be complementary, not able to handle the heavy lifting; as it is only natural. Strong cast of actors profile the Finnish street cop where the rubber hits the road.
As for the females, the new lady Captain in season 2 eventually proves some inspiring leadership with grit... after fumbling with misplaced aggression and negativity. The much too pretty, yet just passably believable female cop Maikke shows a good determination for a woman street cop and holds down her role in the series.
Roba is a good show. I'm just glad to see that Finland hasn't bowed so much to the PC pervasiveness of western entertainment to the point of being sickening already if you know what I mean.
