From the Back Cover
The first book in the Robby's Quest children's storybook series.
Robby is a Robin who has teamed up with his brother Ricky and some other birds, namely the perky Sparrow family, a group of Mourning Doves and Benny the Blackbird. In this story, the group of life-long feathery friends decided to fly south to Florida for the winter.
Along the way, Joy, the youngest Sparrow, strays from the flock and lands in the backyard of Hershey, a very determined and hungry cat. Her parents and some of the other birds form a search party and hope they find her before it's too late.
The birds continue on their journey, only to discover their winter home has been destroyed by a hurricane. There's no food and nowhere to build a nest. The little flock is hungry and exhausted. Should the birds stay and hope for the best? Or should they use their last energy to carry on flying west to Arizona?
Robby's Quest for Seed is a story about leadership, teamwork and friendship that both parents and children will enjoy.
About the Author
One day Don and Cathy were watching the birds playing in the bird bath and eating from the birdfeeder. On the top of a block wall in the back yard, the birds patiently waited their turn to eat, resembling airplanes waiting to take off at a busy airport. Don and Cathy were amazed at how the birds took turns at the birdfeeder and how the smaller birds would kick seed down to the larger birds, and they decided to write a children's book about their birds.
Currently living in Arizona along with their cats Hershey and Nomi, Cathy is a homemaker and Don is a retired Manufacturing Manager and former Governing Board member of the Cartwright School District in Phoenix, Arizona.

By the time they they reached Birmingham, they became excited about getting to their new destination, sunny Florida. However, along the way, Joy wandered off, finding herself in deep trouble with Hersey. A rescue team was formed, and her life was saved, from battling with the mean cat. Then, they realized there was no food to be found, and they needed warm shelter. To make matters worse, they got lost as they learned the true meaning of exhaust, and starvation. Despite all the problems they had to deal with, survival became the name of the game, until the sun began to shed light upon their lives in their new home, Lake Pleasant.
Inspired by the love of nature, "ROBBY'S QUEST FOR SEED" was born. D.C. Rush pens a fun-filled story that will not only make children laugh, but teach them many lessons in life. This intriguing story teaches children about decision-making, the importance of following rules, the true meaning of leadership, and group participation. In addition, the author highlights the value of friendship, confidence, and why team-work can make a difference. This delightful story includes eight chapters of inspiration, with colorful illustrations that bring the story to life. "ROBBY'S QUEST FOR SEED" is as fun-filled as Chicken Little, as heartwarming as Charlotte's Web, and as entertaining as Lady And The Tramp. Highly recommended to teachers, parents, and child-care providers!
Unable to settle in their location of choice, because of circumstances,
they had to quickly find a new place to settle. With food supply scarce
and other detriments facing them, Robbie feared for the worse. He was
responsible for their safety. He must not fail!
There were good points on being responsible, trustworthy, persevering,
and optimistic. It also emphasized unity, safety in numbers, and the
importance of taking care of our environment. This has adventure mixed
with teaching moments. It would have been nice to have events built up
more for mid-elementary since it is written as a chapter book.
The illustrations it has are colorful and fun.
This is an amazing story of Robby and how he leads all the other birds through their travels. It is a very nice story with drawings and also teaches nice lessons about teamwork, family and helping each other.
I will definitely be looking into more books from D.C Rush as my son had a great time. Recommended!!!
