If you know RR, pass on this and get the updated RR.
If you don’t know RR, Just get the revised RR (latest edition) with an “idiot’s Guide.”
This is very easy to read, but will never serve its purpose for someone who wants or needs parliamentary procedure.
Without the context, you really need RR. I purchased to refer back to earlier knowledge thinking this could act as a refresher and offer more (modern) examples. What it mostly did was alert me that my 1970+ RR would suffice.
If you know RR, you’ll want folks who don’t to read something else.

There is a newer edition of this item:
The 1990, ninth edition, of Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised is the only currently authoritative volume to contain the complete Robert's Rules of Order subject matter. It has been totally reset and redesigned for easier use. This ninth edition supersedes all previous editions and automatically becomes the parliamentary authority in organizations whose bylaws prescribe Robert's Rules of Order. This edition has been updated to address common inquiries, and it incorporates new rules, interpretations, and procedures made necessary by the evolution of parliamentary procedure. Among the more important areas of revision are: more modern and appropriate usage is given for the chair's invitation to members to speak in debate or offer secondary motions after stating the question on a motion the rule relating to the power of replacement of members on committees by the appointing authority is clarified formal recognition is given to the practice of sending a suggested agenda to members in advance of a meeting a subsection of hints to inexperienced presiding officers had been improved greater prominence is given to rules relating to the growing practice of nominating for office by petition specifications are provided for methods of expediting roll-call voting in very large conventions and calling a roll by delegation rather than by individuals In addition, the ninth edition of Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised includes a special section, printed on tinted paper, which summarizes rules related to motions for quick and easy access.

This book is a surprisingly concise, practical, and well written overview of the most essential points of Robert's Rules of Order. It's particularly well suited for small organizations, especially those that have been run relatively informally and would like to add more predictability and structure to their meetings, but would find adoption of the full Robert's Rules of Order to be too burdensome. It's also a good introduction for people newly elected/appointed to positions of leadership or responsibility (officers and board members, for example), but who don't have a lot of practical experience with meeting procedures. You won't become a parliamentarian by reading this book, but if you are looking for guidelines (as opposed to detailed rules) for simple meetings and organizations, this is an excellent primer. Also, the reference tables of motions and other procedures at the back of the book is very handy.

This book is readable--even enjoyable reading!! I'm stunned. I dreaded having to read it--was prepared to be bored to tears BUT I am delighted to say that the clarity of thought, and thorough explanations of why we need each rule are given in simple, clear language.
We don't need to be college graduates to lead our Civic Associations and Groups--It's all here in average-citizen language. Thank you Mr. Robert. You've made it possible for any group to do good work--and remain friends!
I'm gradually purchasing a copy for each Officer and Board member, having just been given presidency of an potentially dynamic force in our neighborhood.
Thank you for the effort, and for using your considerable intelligence to give important information that just about anyone can understand and use--understanding of why it's needed. Every officer of every group will become better at what he-she is doing by getting familiar with this book. Thank you! (Ariel I.)

Great book for nitpickers. Enough here to either grind a meeting to a halt or actually conduct a meeting in a fair manner. Be aware, includes subtle "ad's" to buy the full RRO book because this is "In Brief". (OK, I bought the full book after reading this.) This book is good enough for most occasions and organizations.

Needed for a non-profit. Sure helps resolve arguments about what is and is not "the rules". I can certainly see how these rules came to be in existence as have come up against issues when people tried to figure out on their own how to circumvent. These rules are not made to be broken as they help facilitate smooth and fair meetings.

Use in conjunction with full version of Roberts Rules. Contains a summary of the basics but the most helpful portions are the Tables at the end of the book on Handling Motions, Conducting a Meeting, Table of Rules and Words to use as a Member. Great for explaining common errors such as "Calling the Question" instead of the actual process for "Previous Question" and more importantly why you should care. Demonstrates how the rules should be properly applied using examples of simulated motions etc. As a summary, you still need the full version to drill down on specifics but I refer to this most often and it covers 90% of what's needed at most meetings.

If you have joined a small organization or committee that runs it's meetings using Robert's Rules, this book is absolutely 100% worth the money and time to read it. It's a quick read, concise, gives a good overview for most small organizations to effectively run meetings, vote appropriately, and keep accurate records. If you have need of more detail regarding by-laws, meeting minutes and records, etc, then the full RRNR might be better for you; but even then this book is a great reference to have on hand.

I am finding 'Robert's Rules of Order in Brief' an easy read as it is the essence of the more difficult full text of Robert's Rule of Order which is essentially a tome on Parliamentary Procedure which is essentially the distilled essence of a thousand years of British government. And it's what we use for all our meetings of the highest government processes, currently the Impeachment of Donald Trump proceedings and for meeting down to the lowest levels of civilization. So if you're involved in anything like that it's a must have as it will save you blood sweat and tears in the long run...

Bought this at the same time as Robert's Rules for Dummies, dipped into it so far and looks to be as it suggests a brief summary which can be used as an easy reference guide.

I bought it to teach a course on formal meetings at university. It worked very well. Some cultural differences between US and European meeting styles though. More consensus building here.
