Robinair's No. 15500 VacuMaster Economy Vacuum Pump is a high performance, heavy duty 2-Stage rotary vane design vacuum pump designed for air conditioning and refrigeration service. With a 5 CFM free air displacement, factory rating to 35 microns, and 7.5 ounce oil reservoir, this unit has the capacity you need to get the job done. This robust unit features a 1/3 HP, 115V/60Hz thermally protected motor; an inlet fitting engineered for maximum airflow while preventing oil backflow; finned aluminum surfaces that dissipate heat faster (keeping pump cooler and extending life); 1/4" male flare and 3/8" ACME inlet fittings; 3/8" female flare x 1/2" Acme adapter; easy to read sight glass; easy access oil fill port; oil drain valve positioned at the bottom of the oil reservoir and angled for faster, more complete draining; and non-skid feet. Bought this instead of a Chinese made 12 CFM 1 horse power vacuum pump for the same price, because Robin air is American made and I don't trust that Chinese crap, was very disappointed to find a made in China sticker on the bottom of it.

While this pump does what it is supposed to do be aware that if even the smallest part fails you will be throwing the pump away as parts are not available.

I bought this pump and a 15310 single stage and both failed because of the plastic blades after about100 hours or less run time. These take a few minutes to remove but then I found out you can't buy parts. Now I have 2 pumps which are pretty much new and are useless.

Would not pull a good vacuum right out of the box. Unit arrived in good shape. Filled with provided oil. installed CPS VG200 vacuum gauge to inlet and turned it on. Achieved 27 in. Hg in about a minute and only 27.5 after 30 minutes. No good for AC work.

I was surprised when I received a unit with oil already in pump a third of the window below the fill line, and the detachable extension cord already plugged into pump and rest of cord wrapped under the handle in place of being placed on top of styrofoam packaging in its slot. Looks like a repackaged unit and I did pay for a new item. I will be returning the unit. Surprisingly it was shipped directly from Robinair and in its original packaging.

Awsome pump. You may need an adapter if using automotive R134 gauges if your hose has a schraeder valve. The included adapter does not have a valve depressor for the ACME size but it does for the older R12 size. Several people have complained about it filling your work area with clouds of smoke, well it will if you overfill it. READ THE DIRECTIONS. Also do not put oil in the exhaust port, its the big red knob that says OIL. (yeah this is bass ackwards) This is a great pump, brings down vacuum quickly and I was reading max vacuum for my elevation. I ran it for 24 hours straight and it was just ready to add a small amount of oil. It does get warm but it is normal. Also the noise level is about what you would expect, much less than an average oil lubbed compressor.If you need a pump in this price range buy this one.

My old Robinair 15000 is about 40lbs heavy and it walks a lot during pumping which I hate. This 15500 is so light and running smooth and zero walk. I would give it 5 stars if the Operating Manual is not this bad. The manual shows all the external service parts but it never explain the function of the Exhaust Fitting. Some users even think it is for oil filling plug. Then the section it instructs how to shut off the pump correctly, involving 3 or more steps, except that it never says when to turn the power switch off.

Many users had complained about the bad Operating Manual. I suggest that the company should demote those people responsible for the Manual.

Edited: after using it on 3 mini split systems installation, I can confirm that the pump is doing great job: no oil consumption; it pulled down to 80 microns less than 15 minutes on a tight connection using copper pipe instead of rubber hose even I only changed oil once during 1 month working on 3 units installation.

It just has a very bad unclear User Manual.

I chose to go with a brand name rather than one of the cheaper similar spec models. Never had a pump before but every car needs a new compressor if you keep it long enough. One pump and refill costs more that this pump (including Freon and oil). Easy setup, quiet, pulled good vacuum. Didn't check final vacuum as my gauges are not the best, but needle was basically pegged at highest vacuum level. The repair was: automotive - new compressor, all new seals on all components, full flush on what was left, new suction/discharge hose, new receiver drier). After sitting for an hour with no change in vacuum, added sufficient R134a for compressor to run and fully charged the system. Even with the new parts (all AC Delco - so double what i could have paid) plus the tools i didn't have (flush kit, flush, this pump) cost was half of dealer cost to just replace the compressor. After use I changed the pump oil - went from clear to noticably yellow with 45 minutes of use. Easy to change, just follow instructions provided. This is cheap easy maintenance. Can't comment on durability as i only used it once. Way quieter than the previous pump i borrowed.

Pump had no problem quickly pulling a vacuum on 18,000 BTU mini split. The min as most know is 500 Microns, and this thing blew right past that, and 400, 300, 200 and I took it down to 160 and decided that was low enough, after about 30 mins. Some will spend hours chasing 50 mic just because they can but it really doesn't matter, any moisture in the system should be gone long before then.

It's not often I come across a product that exceeds all my expectations but the Robinair 15500 is the exception. This pump is quality workmanship throughout. Yes it's a little more expensive than some vacuum pumps you can find but that difference in price is more than offset by the rugged build quality and performance this workhorse provides. Add to that the after sales service and support that Robinair is famous for and you can rest assured that this will be one purchase you will not regret making.

I had the smaller single stage Robinair 15310 and it did work quite well. This unit just works that much better. I do woodworking and use this to stabilize wooden blanks for pen turning. Yes it can pull a vacuum quicker, but in my use I don't need the speed and when I start stabizing, I actual leave a bleeder valve open to slow the vacuum down. Where this unit shines is pulling that last bit of air out of the chamber. they say that the single stage can get to 50 microns. I don't know if I really ever got there. this dual stage is rated to 35 microns and I am getting a better pull and pulling far more air out of the wooden blanks than I could with the 15310. Yes it cost double, but worth every penny.

Second one of these pumps I brought, only because the first one was so good someone wanted to buy it off me. These things are amazing machines, pulls -30hg and more, quite as you could pray for, no smoke, lasts forever, even after the first one was used with no cold trap and pulled tons of isopropyl direct to the pump, still works like a charm. I do not recommend this though it will shorten the lifespan of your pump. Get a cold trap, and it will last for years. I'm talking heavy use too, like 6+ hours a day running no problems.
