This is HYSTERICAL to watch in 2020

The politics of RoboCop 2 are all over the place and are a good reminder in 2020 that times change and so do ideological bedfellows: here we have a police force going on strike over a labor dispute with their corporate owners who are getting in the way so they can't take down (with proper VIOLENCE and BRUTALITY) a drug-pushing crime syndicate lead by a vaguely (and paradoxically) anarchist/nationalist cult-like leader. And that's just the beginning!

Director Irvin Kershner of 'The Empire Strikes Back' fame handles the satire with a slightly wackier touch compared to the first RoboCop and that's fine by me (the original is so unpleasant I rarely revisit it despite how well made it is), and his experience working with special effects helps make this perhaps the last hurrah for stop-motion animation before CGI took over. Unfortunately he seems to be working with an unfinished script, as RoboCop's arc gets dropped, his partner Nancy Allen never gets one in the first place, and it seems to be setting up a payoff for a female technician character that never materializes (and we don't even learn her name?). Also weird is Leonard Rosenman's inappropriate score, which sounds just like his work from 'Star Trek IV' and the animated 'Lord of the Rings'.

The result of all this can't honestly be called a great movie but it's solid enough and makes for an enjoyably bizarre and hilarious time capsule.

Robocop returns to fight the evil Omni Corp's renewed attempt to take control of Detroit

Robocop was a huge success so it was inevitable that it would be turned into a franchise. This was the second release and saw Peter Weller return as Robocop. Both the first and second films focused upon the evils of the Omni Corporation. This time the company was short-changing the police leading to a strike while turning to criminals for its next generation of robotic police officers.

Like usual Robocop 2 starts with scenes of urban chaos. An old woman gets mugged then the mugger gets attacked by two prostitutes. Men rob a gun store, etc. That’s because the police are on strike giving free reign to the criminals. There is also a new gang lord named Cain (Tom Noonan) distributing the latest narcotic to the streets. He gets to chop up Robocop showing that he wasn’t invincible. It turns out the increased crime is part of Omni’s plot.

Like the first film, Omni Corporation is the villain. It is still scheming to manipulate the police and Robocop to try to take control of Detroit. The anti-corporate message was what put the Robocop series above others of its ilk.

I rewatched Robocop 2 just recently, and I have to say, as much as I didn't expect it to, it has stood the test of time. It's just as fun today as it was when it came out, and the CG Cain face really isn't all that bad comparatively. If you want a Starship Troopers-esque action romp, a little exploration of the concepts of transhumanism, and a heavy dose of late stage capitalism, this movie will scratch that very unique itch. All I can say is, I'd buy that for a dollar!

Doesn't top the original, but Robocop 2 is well-made with solid special effects and a good sense of humor. The biggest weakness is the script, which feels like a larger and more ambitious story was trimmed before filming. So there are a lot of good ideas that are never expanded on. Both Robocop and Robocop 2 can be viewed as satire and that really comes across in this sequel. This dystopic Detroit has a lot in common with Dredd (2012) although the tone is different.

Been looking for this movie for years at pawn shops, finally gave up and bought it off amazon. Glad I did. Not as good as the first Robocop movie, but if you liked the original I think you'll like this one too. It has a very twisted and psychotic drug lord, a street smart preteen, some good action, a couple of funny moments, and a big cyborg to fight.

I love this sequel, I think Frank Miller had Balls the size of the Rock of Gibraltar for such a gnarly screenplay, it's violent, a lot of people had problems with the little kid being so Krazy and a drug dealer killer, but sometimes a shocking element is what you need, they made this sequel more gnarlier than the first one, I'm not saying it's better than the original, but they did a Hell of a job trying to keep up with it, Shout Factory made this Blu Ray sexy and vibrant, kudos, they are one of the best companies out there, thanks Shout Factory

The second of Robocop was great like the first one. Peter Weller still played the role as Robocop in this one. Great Science Fiction and action packed film. This time he faces Robocop II, which O.C.P. didn't know it was controlled by a menace maniac by a good actor Tom Noonan (Last Action Hero, Eight Legged Freaks & The House Of The Devil) he played a good role. Also Nancy Allen too. This one is a blast good time. Another great classic of its kind. Highly recommended.

This film isn't as deep as the first one, there's nothing in it that comes close to Murphy trying to regain his humanity/ dealing with being more machine than man. TO be fair they do have a scene where Murphy's wife sees him for the first time ever after his death and becoming RoboCop. The issue of him struggling with with being Alex Murphy and at the same time RoboCop are never revisited fully after that. But aside from that one scene, there is nothing incredibly deep that the film offers the audience, let alone any real solid character development of Murphy. Don't expect anything more solid than a typical action film. The soundtrack for the film is not done by Basil Poledouris who composed music for the first RoboCop, but still pretty epic through.
