First this encyclopedia seems to be directed at middle school children. Second the book is not truly an encyclopedia as no subject is covered in-depth. You get a bunch of staccato blurbs on the different topics. I expected much deeper coverage of clockwork androids, however all I got was a single 5 sentence paragraph. Britannica this is not.

Consider this a primer for younger children.

For true historians and robo enthusiasts this might be a little weak. But I'm a professional roboticist who designs circuits and writes DSLs for robots, and I use this wonderful little book to play with my grandkids. It is kindof like a book of monsters that can fascinate your 8 year old for hours! You can draw from it, and tell the kids stories based on facts-- expanding the blurbs to delight as you wish.

Highly recommended for the adult/child interface, but perhaps not the inner child if you are expecting a lot of detail!
