This book was live just a little after midnight this morning. I decided, since I was awake when it downloaded, I would read just one chapter before bed. I wanted to get at least a taste of Marcus & Daisy before I slept. That chapter turned into the whole dang novella!

"...when I heard Marcus ask, 'In your castle, did you have a prince charming?'
And as I gave up the fight and allowed my eyes to close, I muttered, 'There ain't no prince charming for a girl like me.'"
Marcus and Daisy have been an integral part of the Rock Chick equation from the beginning. Marcus, the feared entrepreneur of some rather ... shady business. Daisy, a southern lady with just a touch of Dolly in her. The two of them had much of their story unearthed through the series, but we never quite got to delve into their lives the way we did the rest of the Rock Chicks.

This story broke my heart and put it back together, more than once. Daisy came from so much heartache. "And I could hear the words but even though they were coming from just down the hall, I was somewhere else. I was building castles." In entering Daisy's past, I have to say I fell in love with Miss Annamae, a true southern lady. She taught Daisy everything she needed to know in order to be a proper southern girl. She gave her advice on how to set her table, entertain guests, developing her style, and most importantly what kind of man Daisy deserved. "You find that time when you get yourself a boy, child, he holds the door for you. You enter a room before him. He closes you safe in your car. If you're at a restaurant, he gives you the seat with the best view. He stands when you stand. He offers you his hand when it's needed. And if you've got a touch with a drill and a hankerin' to use it, then you use it, girl. But if you don't and you got hooks you need put up in your bathroom, he best be gettin' on that for you and doin' it without backtalk or delay." Miss Annamae saw the worth in Daisy and wanted her to know she deserved nothing less than a gentleman, a prince, if you will.
Daisy made a life for herself when she left home and settled in Denver. Finding Smithie was one of the best things she could do. Now, many people look down on stripping and see it as a lesser employment and those who do it as even less. But Daisy didn't care. She was good at it, brought in a crowd to make sure she was taken care of and her girls. Ensured Smithie was taken care of, too. She sees Marcus across Smithie's one day and is warned off by some of the other girls, so she lets it go. Some time later, a terrible thing happens to Daisy. Something undeserved to any person, especially someone with a heart like hers. After this incident, Marcus takes notice. Not of her, he'd already taken notice of her, but now he intends to set out in making her his. But Daisy ... well, Daisy is about to break. This vibrant, caring, dare I say sparkling woman now has lost her spark. "You don't keep trash safe. You threw it away. But nothing? Nothing just went ... nothing."

Marcus.
This. Man. Is. Perfection. You would never guess just knowing who he is, what he does, that he is a man filled with so much love. This man LIVES to make Daisy happy. Anything she wants, ANYTHING, he will find a way to get it. "A woman like you should have had a momma who loved her. A daddy who adored her. Friends who thought the world of her. She should have grown up every day knowing that straight to her soul, never doubting it, not for one second." At every turn, in every action, we see a man who longs to bring Daisy every inch of happiness she deserves. He doesn't see a stripper, a broken woman, or even the trash that Daisy believes she is. He sees her heart, one of the biggest hearts I've ever read in a book (this is seen WAY more in the Rock Chick series).

There were parts of the story that were just a little ... lacking for me. I can't place my finger on it exactly, but something about the pace was a little off to me. Maybe because Daisy, even though a Rock Chick, isn't quite the same OR maybe because with Marcus as a part of the story, this had a little more feel of the Unfinished Heroes series (If you haven't read it, and you love Marcus, PHENOMENAL). But, overall this story totally blew me away. This would be an awesome place to start if you haven't read the Rock Chicks, or a great place to go even if you're in the middle of the series.

Rock Chick Reawakening was the prequel to the Rock Chick series by Kristen Ashley.

I enjoyed the plot line and the characters. Daisy was tough and had no one but herself to count on since she was a young child. She had seen way too much but she survived and learned how to make it on her own. Marcus was a mystery at first. He was obviously important and powerful, but beyond that, his occupation was left open at the beginning. It was a slow burn and at first I didn’t feel the connection, but the ending sold me.

Although Rock Chick Reawakening was listed as the prequel to the series, it was written last, technically book ten, and I felt would have been better as the conclusion versus the beginning. For those that read it in the order of publication, the storyline made sense, it was a flashback with all of the characters already introduced and the connection was there. But for me, who has only read book one of the series, I was confused through most of it and the term Rock Chick was referred to at the end but wasn’t explained. Additionally, the epilogue read as a conclusion to the series versus a launching into a new series.

All in all, it was quick and enjoyable with my recommendation to read last in the series versus first.

To begin, while Rock Chick Reawakening was written as a series prequel because the events in it take place before Rock Chick, I strongly recommend against reading it before the rest of the series. It’s not so much that it can’t be read first, but rather that it will be far more meaningful of a story when read last. Reading Rock Chick Reawakening first is not going to spoil the other books in the series, but there are so many cameos, glimpses at characters we barely knew, and connections made in it, that it will mean more to the reader after they’ve experienced the zaniness of each Rock Chick’s courtship; not to mention, Daisy is her own brand of Rock Chick, so the tone is not quite the same (nor should it have been). As for Rock Chick Reawakening, I was not at all surprised that it was a 5-star read for me – heck, I’ve already read it four times since its release.

Truth be told, Ashley would have had to work hard at writing Marcus and Daisy’s story in such a way that I wouldn’t love it. It’s Daisy and Marcus, after all. Rock Chick fans knew how they got together, but we didn’t really know HOW they got together. Ashley has done a fantastic job in giving us a beautiful love story that not only let us get to know a well-loved character even better than we already did, but she also gave us a better look into Daisy’s enigmatic knight in tarnished armor. And what a fairy tale it was, complete with the saving of the princess, the slaying of the dragon, and the happily ever after in their castle. I absolutely loved learning about how the castle came to be built. I won’t go over the events that transpired in the book because even those that fans are aware of, take on a whole new meaning when experienced from Daisy and Marcus’s points of view. I will say that even though I already knew that Marcus Sloane adored his wife, I had no idea of the depth of his love for her. The dichotomy of Marcus’s character as both a crime lord (of sorts) and as a loving husband who does all in his power to make his wife safe and happy is… ugh, I can’t even find the right word with how inspiring it was. Because Rock Chick Reawakening is a novella, events move rather quickly and I found myself at the end of the book far sooner than I wanted. As for the ending, it made me bawl – every single time I read it. Seeing Daisy experience the heartbreak of being unable to conceive and doing it from her husband’s point of view, and then watching what Marcus does to try to mitigate the daily emotional reminder just hurt. But every Rock Chick gets her happy ending and Ashley crafted the perfect one for Marcus and Daisy.

On an aside, I loved seeing paths cross before connections were made and learning how certain connections were made. If I understood the scene in the park correctly, Daisy crossed paths with Park, the young man we never met in Rock Chick Renegade, and we got our first look at Sniff as well. Even though it hurt her at the time, knowing what she was missing, I couldn’t help but smile at the conversation she overheard while shoe shopping, knowing that one day she would not only have her girl posse, she’d be part of that very girl posse shopping behind her. There are also references to a few side characters who lived up to their problematic reputations – Vince and Dawn. But I think the most meaningful revelation of all for me was seeing why Lee and Vance were so protective of Daisy later on in the series and learning that they, as well as Luke, started Nightingale Investigations out as they intended to run it – protecting those who couldn’t always protect themselves and insuring that their abusers, especially men who abused women, got what they deserved. I adored Rock Chick Reawakening and cannot wait to read it again, yes, again.

Oh wow! Daisy's story is heartbreaking but uplifting all at the same time. From a tough childhood with only a couple of glimmers of good, she is determined to build her own castles. Smithy is her third glimmer, he gave her a job, protection and friendship right along with his wife. Then there's Marcus, he just knows, as soon as he sees her but things don't go smoothly. Daisy finds her happy ever after but not without struggles and pain. We haven't seen a lot of that side of her in the other books, she's the one to champion the others and support not matter what. This story is hers and she deserved to get it. Marcus may not have always been completely on the straight and narrow but once he finds his Queen he will do anything to keep her happy. Love, love, loved it.

It's been a long time since KA did justice to a book I wanted to love but couldn't. She's lost something of her uniqueness over the years for me and has wobbled on the verge of creating irritating characters to repetitive ones. I'm not saying that this unhappy trend has suddenly stopped, but this book definitely was a much much better read than some of the last.

It's hard, impossible, just plain not right not to love Daisy. She's just that kind of infectious loving creature that is incapable of not being loved. Yes there were one or two moments when the glare of irritability snuck in threatening to overshadow Daisy's daisyness, but it was salvaged by Marcus' tender loving amusement in her. He just enjoyed her. And also made himself one of my favourite KA guys...and that's hard because all the favourites come from books written years ago - her more recent male characters being pale replicas of former hero's.

Anyway why the 5 stars then if while loving this book I'm also not lauding it's brilliance? Because I wanted a HEA for The Sloans and they got theirs without pages and pages of rambling descriptions that are no longer cute. I think the shorter length in this book felt fresher than KAs recent normally longer books. I was entertained but not over loaded with details; which was a great trademark of the authors in times gone by but now feels like she's just filling pages with the same old lines. So short was good. Actually it was great!

Fresh, funny, kind, sad, joyous, revealing daisyness. I loved it and I hope KA tries to keep hold if that freshness even if it means books that are of a shorter kind. thank you.

The tears, the heartache, the absolute happiness that burst from me throughout this entire book. Marcus Sloan has interested me since the minute I met him in Rock Chicks and with each meeting with him my interest grew. He's intense and strong and jeez there is just something about him. So when we met Daisy this quirky, fun loving and sweet woman I wondered how there story went and when i realised we were getting their story I was ecstatic!

Lee and Indy from the first Rock Chicks have always been my favourite but after that wonderful piece that KA has given to us I really think Daisy and Marcus have joint 1st place.

Daisy is a woman that has led a harsh life but she is who she is and doesn't care what others think, she is funny and she is sweet. The only thing she has is the option to be herself. Marcus is also a man who makes no bones about who he is and the life he leads. Yet with Daisy it's like he is this while other person designed just for her and designed to be who she needs to be. He know's exactly how to get what he wants and nothing will stand in his way.

"You mistake me," he said softly. "I don't want to come on strong. I don't want to take this at a pace you aren't comfortable with. Not with what happened to you, but you should understand, I wouldn't do that even if that hadn't happened to you. So you'll set the pace. Just as long as there is a pace".

The flashbacks of Daisy's young life are also bittersweet knowing how much she went through but knowing what she went through made her the person she was meant to be. We met the lady who was Daisy's role model the woman who taught her to be who she is, Miss Annamae.

I could go on and on about how epic this book is and how epic this couple is, grrr it's just so damn amazing and one of my top 2017 reads and guess what, were only a few day's into it.

I'll leave you with one of my favourite, the most sweetest lines from this book.

"Okay, darling but you're safe now." "I wanna believe that. I wanna believe in castles." "You'll believe," he whispered. " I wanna believe" "You'll believe, Daisy."

Having read the rock chick, dream man, Colorado mountain, the burg, unfinished heroes, chaos series and some of her standalone books I've always had my favourites Tack, Hawk, Joe, Mace and though he never had his own book Dog. We waited a long time for Marcus and Daisy I always imagined that Marcus was a little too unfeeling and the way we saw them in the other books wasn't they way they started out, that maybe he wanted Daisy but at first it was a business transaction or a marriage of convenience for him before he came to have feelings for . Boy was I wrong Marcus Sloane just became my favourite of all Kristen Ashley's heroes, ever wondered why they live in a castle? Why a man as sophisticated, rich, ruthless as him married a stripper as bubbly, outrageous, and carefree as Daisy? This book gripped me from start to finish, I read it in one sitting and made me cry, had me smiling and laughing and in the end left me wanting to revisit all those books that came before it and made the wait for this one worth it.

I cant even begin to tell you how long I have been hoping for this story to be written and it was SOOOOO worth the wait, and more. I loved Marcus and Daisy before but I love them both even more now, especially Marcus. I didn't want this book to end, not only because it means the end of my most favourite series ever *sob* but because I could have read about these two for hours and hours more. It didn't have the same laugh out loud humour as the other books in the series but it was perfect for Daisy and leaves you with the ultimate inner glow. A fantastic book to end the most fantastic series.

I wont put ANY spoilers in but I am just SOOOO happy with this book and how it all came together for Daisy. Well done KA and thank you for writing this for us (if we can persuade you to do a spin off series with the Rock Chick kids - that would be AMAZING) ;0)
