Here is the main problem I have with this series- the actions of the male love interests are downright scary a lot of the time. I realize it's fiction, but I think if most women had even one encounter with a dude she's just met that involved her being handcuffed against her will, or forced into a vehicle, or told in no uncertain terms that they are now in a relationship and she needs to just deal with it, she would be running as fast as she could to the police to file a restraining order. I cringe when reading some of these scenarios. The actions of the 'Hot Bunch' read like a bunch of abusers much of the time. I feel like they could have still been written as a bunch of tough macho men without them constantly manhandling their girlfriends and flying into jealous rages.
“He isn't my man."
"Girl, it don't matter you don't think he is, he thinks he is."
This is a book that truly surprised me with how much I enjoyed it!.
Rock Chick Revenge is about former "fatty" (as she put in her own words) Ava who goes to an old friend Luke with a problem her best friend is having. Right away Luke is more than happy to reunite, in fact he all but abducts Ava into his life.
“I'm not stupid, I know your heart's involved in this and I've never, not once in all the time you've known me, given you the idea that I won't handle it with care.”
My weakness with romance is an insecure heroine and angst. This book had heaps of both so I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved Ava and her journey, how she didn't just give in to Luke and believed everything right away. Their relationship took work and Luke was willing to put in the time.
I also thought this book was funny as hell and almost no one pissed me off which is a miracle cause with this series, normally someone is pissing me off. I got frustrated at some times with how Luke treated Ava, but later he more than made up for it and I ended up loving him. Even if he was a little bit creepy.
I think I'm off to binge what's left of KA's back list. I don't wanna run out but her books are hitting the spot!!!
“Ava, you missed it when it happened so I’ll clue you in. Last night, around the time you fell asleep against me, you became mine.”
Looking at all the previous Hot Bunch Guys, Luke is the one with the dirtiest mouth and the things he says to Ava makes my legs feel like jello. I guess the reason I probably gave it the lower rating at first was because in the past books Luke tries to get with Roxie and then he really tries to get with Jules. I guess I kinda wanted him to know that he had always wanted Ava. I mean he is a PI and Ava has lived in Denver most of her life so why did he never try to get in touch with her if she were that important to him? I had always though of Luke as giving out his feelings so easily to the other Rock Chick girls in the previous books that I already had a preconceived notion about him that didn't put him in a good light for me. However, after reading this book for the 3rd time I already knew where he was coming from that it shifted my paradigm (yes, I also read Franklin Covey!). I also realized that karma was biting Luke in the ass for this because not only did his best friend from his childhood grow up to be hot, but that she also had a bunch of other hot guys after her (Ren, Riley, Dom) and it made Luke realize that the other women were nothing compared to Ava. When I finally came to this conclusion that was when I really began to LOVE this book and appreciate it more. It took me the 3rd time reading it, but I FINALLY got it.
I like that Ava has more of a bitchy attitude than the previous Rock Chicks, though not in a really bitchy way, but in an adorable, lie-to-Luke's-face, throw him off track kinda way. And I absolutely love that Luke calls Ava out on her bitchiness and lies, and instead of getting angry and frustrated he actually loves that she does this. I think that Ava is unique to all the other Rock Chicks in that she has great dental hygiene, I mean, come on she always brushes her teeth! I personally think it is kinda gross to be kissing with morning breath and lots of romance books tend to gloss of over it, but realistically it is gross! I also think it is awesome that Ava wears contacts and uses her clunky glasses at home it makes her seem more human. All the other previous Rock Chicks all seem to jump out of bed looking gorgeous.
I love this book. It will definitely be one of my go-to re-read books when I am in a book slump and just want something entertaining to read.
Then we add in the mob family. That just added more ridiculousness AND THEN add in the personal trainer! And the best friend's horrible relationship. And being a rock chick too?!? I really had to fight my way through this one. I'm actually really wondering if I want to go to next one! I'll try it but if it's nearly as bad as this, I'm out!

Although I really liked it, it is far from my favorite of the series so far.Read more
