“Rock 'n' Roll” is the seventh studio album by American rock band Buckcherry, released on August 21, 2015. If I were to give my honest and objective opinion about “Rock 'n' Roll,” I would say that it surely is not Buckcherry’s best album; I wouldn’t classify this as their worst either, but it leaves quite a bit to be desired.

Buckcherry has been a favorite band of mine since their debut album dropped in 1999. I followed them intently until they disbanded after their “Time Bomb” album in 2001, but actually felt that they released their strongest material starting with “15” in 2005. I enjoyed most of their album up till “Confessions” a couple years back, and man, since then they have steadily continued to decline in my eyes. This brings me to their newest effort “Rock 'n' Roll,” and what I feel they did well, and maybe not so well.

The most notable thing about this record is that Buckcherry seems to make an effort – albeit a seemingly small effort- to return to their sleaze-rocking past. Songs like “The Madness” and “Bring it Back” ooze that sleazy vibe that made these guys stick out, while “Sex Appeal” has a classic Van Halen vibe that makes it a favorite of mine. The rest of the album is where the problems lay for me: bad songs, horrible song writing, and just too many mid-tempo filler songs. Now when I say filler, I absolutely mean songs that are there simply to take up space and time on an album. Tracks like “Wood” and “Tight Pants” seem like they could have been written by my six year old nephew, while a myriad of mellow songs reach a cheese factor that could make ‘80s hair bands laugh (and ‘80s hair metal is my favorite music).

The album is actually not all that terrible when you give it a couple listens. It most assuredly is not “15” or “Black Butterfly,” and that’s fair, but sometimes you have to wonder if that special something that Buckcherry had at one point is now a thing of the past.

Let's face it. We don't listen to B/C for intelligent lyrics or even remotely original music. We don't listen for great singing or playing (although the slide guitar work is tight). We listen because we are hoping that they will come out with something as strong as their debut or "15". Well, they didn't. But it's better than the "F" EP. It's not as good as "All Night Long" mostly because when you've already written the dumbest lyrics imaginable ("F")..where can you go? That's right! Double your efforts! 'Tight Pants' & 'Wood' could possibly lower your I.Q. with too many listens. The problem is that B/C already believe their fans are stupid. They keep trying to sell us any old crap. "Slap 'Buckcherry' on it and those idiots will buy it!". Next thing you know, they'll start selling "Buckcherry" dildos or something. Do yourself a favor and listen to the samples, save your money and listen to "15" or "Time Bomb".

I've been a Buckcherry fan for a long time. For awhile it seemed like each release was better than the last. I even loved the F*#@ EP. This one definitely comes in at the bottom of the list. It's still Buckcherry so it has a couple of good songs on it. It's just not as good as their other ones. Of course they set the bar quite high with all the other ones. Just saw them live on this tour and they're still awesome live.

I'll be the first to admit that i'm a loyal long time fan of Buckcherry. That being said this is a strong release a band that has been 'lighting up' since the last 90's. No this is no '15' or 'Time Bomb' for that matter, but it's still a collection of songs that are incredibly enjoyable to listen to and even more fun to sing along to. There are a couple tracks (Cradle, Rain is Falling) that are down right sappy, but the majority of the album contains some killer rock tracks. My personal favorites are Bring it on Back (the first single), Sex Appeal, Get With It and The Feeling Never Dies. You won't find a 'Sorry' on this release, but The Feeling Never Dies is a fantastic rendition of a Buckcherry slow tune. Tight Pants brings a little funk to the record and Get With It is a straight ahead b@lls out rock and roll track to end this album on high note. The Best Buy version of this album includes another track titled 'Cannoball' is a nice little hard hitting treat. Like many of their fans, I do hope that one day they will get back to their raunchier Time Bomb roots, but until then I'll be thoroughly enjoying every release that they produce. Not one lead singer in today's "rock" scene has a voice like Josh Todd's and hope to see many more albums added to the BC library. Buckcherry is easily one of the hardest working bands in the industry and now that they have their own record label I only see even brighter things in their future. Now get off this site and 'bring it on back.'
