Aggravating heroine

Cassidy Evans is struggling with grief and her friends and parents don't seem to be on the same page as her. The only thing she can think to do is run from the pain. And from there, one bad decision leads to another until Cassidy is left to confront the cold hard truth about herself and pick up the pieces of destruction that she's left behind. While her chemistry with Gage appeared lukewarm at best initially, I did like Gage a lot because he was such a good guy who did all the right things. Luca had a certain charm about him that seemed appealing so I could understand Cassidy's interest in him, because Luca was all about the escape from reality. Cassidy herself is a bit self-absorbed and rather ignorant to her egocentric behavior. Still, part of her journey was to find herself and who she was separate from the life that she lead and her brother so in that regard, she finally matured and discovered what it means to stick around, face her fears and fight for what she wants instead of continuing to be a victim of circumstance. In the meantime, I did struggle with Cassidy's indecisions and I couldn't quite feel the angst build up except to be sympathetic to Gage the whole time.

I agree with those who say the protagonist, Cassidy, is unlikeable. She repeats the same mistakes over, and over, and over again, ("I'll tell him/her tomorrow, or next week, not today,") and hurts several people in the process. Her decision with Luca - I realize that was the conflict for the plot, but come on. As written, he was not particularly appealing, other than being a rock star, so hurting Gage to tour with him seemed incredible shallow and mean. And Gage, meanwhile, was a very well drawn character who was super appealing. When Cassidy couldn't even tell him what his last name was, I was pretty much finished with her. I continued reading to see Gage get his HEA, but I gave up on Cassidy.

All that said, the premise had potential, and the book started off fine. Nothing wrong with a story about a young woman trying to find herself. But in this case, in my opinion, she was too self-absorbed and never really redeemed herself, whereas Gage went over and above.

How I adore this NA debut! It's super steamy (sometimes literally), but more than that, it's a gorgeous story. Riley has a lovely way with words; her prose gets under my skin and stays with me. Even her sexiest scenes are written with elegance and nuance, and they read almost like poetry. MC Cassidy is such a fun heroine. She's not perfect, but she has the *best* heart, and she's funny in this delightfully self-depreciating way -- so easy to root for. And then there's Gage, who is one of the most desirable NA guys out there. He's hot (obviously -- look at that cover), and he's a musician, and he goes after what he wants. But he's also sweet and attentive and truly caring, which makes him impossible not to love. If you're looking for a read that's full of emotion and seduction and beautiful, beautiful words, I highly recommend this one.

Riley Edgewood has a way with words and descriptions. As much as the main protagonist Cassidy drove me crazy, I also understood that 21 year olds are often selfish, especially following trauma. She was real, she was flawed, and she almost made the worst kind of mistake.

Gage was perfect and he always wanted more than just her body, but Cassidy pulled away. I could not put the book down, I had to know what happened next. I will absolutely follow this author from now on.

She captures the struggles Cassidy goes through after her brother's death, and learning how to move forward. When Cassidy meets Gage she thinks she can just push all her troubles away and just have no strings attached fun. As they start spending more time together and she starts having feelings for Gage, the things she doesn't want to deal with try sneaking their way back in. Enter rocker Luca James and Cassidy thinks she may have found the escape she thinks she needs. And Cassidy is left with a huge decision to make.

This book was a little hard to get through. The main character was not likable. I understand she went through some rough things but she kept taking it a step farther. I get that she was a little lost, but she needed someone like Gage to ground her. He was there when she needed and she still chose to do the wrong thing. I was hoping that Gage would stand up to her in the end and realizes that he does deserve something better. This story didn't grab me the way I was hoping it would. I was beyond frustrated with the main character and her friends. Personally, the book wasn't for me but it just might be for you.

Cassidy is not a likeable character. I understand her damage, and still, I was hoping Gage would not be a doormat of a guy in the end.
She's a craptastic friend, a horrible semi-girlfriend, and just an all around unlikable person. I kept waiting for her to redeem herself and her attempt at doing so in the end was too little, too late, too much for selfish gain reasons to convince me she should get her HEA. I'm honestly not sure if I should read the other books in the series or not based on this one.

I actually really liked Luca but it was always about gage for me. The ending was perfect and the author did both characters justice. The only thing I would have liked was to see Luca grovelling but who knows what's to come in the next books!
