Top Customer Reviews

By George O'Leary TOP 500 REVIEWER on May 1, 2015
The frustration of seeing a CD that entices you with a heading but offers nothing in the way of content should not be slammed with a 1-star review based solely upon the negligence of the seller. And this is even more applicable when the producer is Time-Life whose massive "mail order only" series of CDs of over 3 decades ago was tops in both sound quality and program notes.

Having said that, the concept of the “One Hit Wonder” has been unfairly distorted by many distributors as meaning only those cracking the Billboard Pop charts in the Top 40 (some even cut it off at Top 30 and even Top 20). The reality, however, is that anything that made the Billboard Pop Top/Hot 100, R&B, Country and Adult Contemporary, as well as the Cash Box singles charts was a “hit” to some degree, especially when you consider that there were upwards of 500 to 700 songs that scored from # 1 to # 100 in any given year while hundreds more did not - so much so that Billboard introduced the Pop Bubble Under charts in 1959 for those that ranked from # 101 to 150. Time-Life/Universal Music was no different when it came to stretching the definition and in 3 2001 volumes of their heavily-promoted and massive Time-Life "mail order only" series of CDs, which first began to appear on the scene some 3 decades ago, they present 36 titles as One-Hit Wonders under these separate titles:
The Rock n' Roll Era - One Hit Wonders Of The '50s & '60s: Lost Treasures (M18605);
The Rock n' Roll Era - One Hit Wonders Of The '50s & '60s: Solid Gold (M18606);
The Rock n' Roll Era - One Hit Wonders Of The '50s & '60s: Rockin' Gems (M18607).

These were also offered together as a 3-CD box set in a thin cardboard sleeve titled “The Rock ‘n' Roll Era - One Hit Wonders Of The '50s & '60s: Greatest Hits.

how do you expect to sell something without a proper track listing with the artists?

from the top of the page under the title, I culled this information:

Phil Phillips (Performer),
Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs (Performer),
The Tune Weavers (Performer),
Rosie and the Originals (Performer),
Jerry Keller (Performer),
The Impalas (Performer),
Poni-Tails (Performer),
Ketty Lester (Performer),
Curtis Lee (Performer)

This appears to be the usual suspects in the parade of endless oldies compilations, but still, a complete track list of the artists & titles would help shoppers.

Any interest I might have in the product is gone when you don't give the track & artists listings.
