A brilliant piece of music
on August 14, 2013
It must be said that "Rock and roll over" appeared in somehow special circumstances in 1976. After the howling success of their former LP "Destroyer" both critics and fans were in doubt whether the band would be able to issue another great record.
But "Rock and roll over" was just as good as "Destroyer" in many respects. As regards the music, there were no poor songs on "Rock and roll over". The best tracks on it were: "I want you", "Calling Dr. Love", "Hard luck woman", "Makin' love".
"Hard luck woman" composed by Paul Stanley was reckoned to be one of the most beautiful rock ballads. It was very similar to outstanding "Beth" from "Destroyer". "I want you" was also a magificent rock song by Paul. The next track which attracted my attention was "Makin' love". This classic hard rock song was written by Paul Stanley and Sean Delaney. Sean contributed to the success of "Rock and roll over" as he was actually a co-author of another two good songs here ("Take me" and "Mr. Speed").
Gene Simmons proposed four interesting tracks: "Calling Dr. Love", "Ladies room", "Love'em and leave'em",
"See you in your dreams". Each of them might be a hit, but the first one seemed to be the greatest.
The album would be always remembered for one exceptional song by Peter Criss and Stan Penridge ("Baby driver").
The lyrics of "Rock and roll over" include the following topics:
- sexual addiction, donjuanism, love, building relationships, sex and dating, having sex ("I want you", "Take me",
"Calling Dr. Love", "Ladies room", "Love'em and leave'em", "Mr.Speed", "Hard luck woman", "Makin' love");
- female easy rider ("Baby driver");
- loneliness and nostalgia ("See you in your dreams").
To end with, "Rock and roll over" can be still regarded as one of the best KISS productions. This album really managed to be successful despite the fact that it was released just before "Love gun" and after "Destroyer".
It has been inspirational for hard rock & heavy metal bands and fans throughout the world.
