About the Author
Dayna Steele, best known as Houston's First Lady of Radio ruled the rock airwaves for almost two decades. Honored by Billboard Magazine as Local Radio Personality of the Year in 1996, Steele was also included in Talkers Magazine's 100 Most Important Radio Talk Show Hosts. Steele spent years traveling the globe and interviewing countless bands and rock stars like Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ozzy Osbourne, David Bowie, Bono and Sammy Hagar...to name a few. The great music and insights bestowed upon Steele by these rock legends were what inspired Rock to the Top. Since leaving the airwaves she has gone on to head up a successful marketing and public relations firm, a space-related e-commerce company and SmartGirlsRock.com - an online community for girls destined to be tomorrow's leaders, scientists, mathematicians and engineers.

Or maybe it's because Dayna Steele has written a masterpiece that is unlike anything I've been interested in reading before. Simple, straightforward advice on how to reach your goals in life, based on lessons that she learned while she controlled the rock airwaves in Houston. The 80's bands who are still popular remember today in a large way owe their eternal fame to the disc jockeys who gave them air time. And reading her book makes it clear that there is more to the fame of the ones who remain in the spotlight today than just their music. This is what Rock to the Top is about. Dana picks up on what made rock legends legendary. And based on her stories it is clear this goes far beyond the music they are known for. Perhaps what made the really great rock stars of the 80's was their values and beliefs. The types of values that motivated the best to reach out to superstars like my dear friend Kevin Hendon.
Indeed it was a personal connection to a childhood friend whose life was cut short that led me to buy this book. What I didn't expect was what I learned from Dayna's experience-based advice. After putting it to practice for the past few months, I've noticed it works. Thanks for sharing your secrets and passion. Five stars.
Some of Dayna's stories are quite amusing, but she always describes her rock star interviews and friendships with honesty and objectivity. Stars are human just like everyone else, and she deftly applies what she learned from her numerous encounters for the business reader.
I walked away with new tools (and some very good reminders-like always send a thank you note to the people who help you out) to use to market my book. Overall, I'd recommend Dayna's book to any entrepreneur or person working their way up through the ranks who enjoys rock 'n' roll!
I Recommend this book because it turns out to be a heckuva great book!
If you are looking for a book to motivate (either yourself or others), if you are looking for a how-to book about successful entrepreneurship, if you want an entertaining read, Rock to the Top is for you.
Dana is a great business woman and knows what she's doing! This book was a great read!
