Review
While rumors abound of a brand new Guns N Roses album (who the hell is Buckethead?) and Slash s Snake Pit still going strong (does that guy ever sleep?), A Rock Tribute To Guns N Roses is ready to strut its sleazy self down the Sunset Strip once again. G N R were truly a product of the Hollywood club scene but, unlike most of their peers, the band transcended the clichés of 80s glam rock compatriots to produce some of the greatest rock albums ever. Here on this tribute, many of those bands that preceded Axl Rose and Co. as well as benefited from G N R s success pay homage to the early days - when WE were fab!
A sleazy Sunset Strip styled tribute to the best Hollywood rock band ever, Guns N Roses!
Features blistering covers of classic G N R tracks including Sweet Child O Mine, Welcome To The Jungle, Paradise City and many more!
Guitar work performances from two former G N R members, Gilby Clarke and Tracii Guns PLUS appearances by members of Ratt, Cinderella, Bang Tango, Quiet Riot and more!
Bust out the spandex and hairspray, guys and dolls...this place is about to ROCK! --Official Press Release

Starting with a great tune, You're Crazy, was a great idea and if you have never heard Stevie, the lead singer of Tuff, belt out a tune, you're in for a treat. Following that up with It's So Easy by Fred Coury, the drummer of Cinderella, was a surprisingly good track as well. Quiet Riot's front man Kevin DuBrow knocked my socks off with his version of Welcome to the Jungle. Phil Lewis does a smashing version of My Michelle that I consider far superior than even the official Guns 'n' Roses version as is the Jizzy Pearl version of Sweet Child. Jizzy had done a "remix" CD tribute to Guns 'n' Roses performing the same tune previously and I disliked it only because I am not a "remix" kind of guy. But, I love Jizzy's voice and Jizzy really performed Sweet Child far beyond anybody's expectations.
And that, my friends, is where it dies. Paradise City will leave you wondering, "why?" Why is this guy singing like that? Who is he? Why is everything just "off" on this track? The entire albums seems to follow suit with that "why" question with a few bright spots in You Could be Mine and Civil War.
The highs on the album are high but the lows are below the sea level, especially Paradise City which, prior to this tribute, was my favorite GNR tune. Original GNR member Gilby Clarke and Tracii Guns do a fine job of supplying the musical backing for the album and aside from a few tracks, stayed pretty true to the original recordings. Tracii is a very underrated guitarist but has made some not so great career decisions of late by leaving his flag ship band L.A. Guns over disagreements with placement on a recent tour. L.A. Guns have carried onward and upward without him not even missing a beat.
Ultimately, this is a good enough album. The first five tracks are very good. Everything from that point on is touch and go. If you are a Tuff, Cinderella, Quiet Riot, L.A. Guns, or a fan of any of the collection of bands Jizzy Pearl has fronted (Love/Hate, Ratt, L.A. Guns, Suki Jones), check this album out. If you are just a GNR fan looking for Chinese Democracy before it is released, this isn't it. But, China may actually be a democracy before that album gets released. Take it for what it is, a tribute to a great band. Nothing more, nothing less. Do I like it? Yeah, it's okay. Do I love it? Not really.
Your Crazy, Stevie Rachelle-**** SUPERB- It is cool and raw sounding, yet different than the Gunners' version.
It's So Easy, Fred Coury-***** BEAUTIFUL- True to the Guns N' Roses version, but, yet again, different. I love (in this version) the "It's so eeasayy, when nothin' seems to please me, It all fits so right, when I fade into the night..."
Welcome to the Jungle, Kevin DuBrow-*** O. K. It couldn't hurt to do the chanananananaknees thing.
My Michelle, Phil Lewis-**** Awesome- The accent tops this song off, It is just awesome.
Sweet Child O' Mine, Jizzy Pearl-***** This song is one of Guns N' Roses most beautiful, aside from " Knockin' on Heaven's Door" and a few others.
Paradise City, Kory Clarke-**** Beautiful Remake, Just Beautiful.
Mr. Brownstone, Joe Leste-*****(I would add a sixth*)Wicked- Rough and in your face American Rock N' Roll
You Could be Mine, Mitch Malloy-**** Same review as Paradise City.
Used to Love Her, John Corabi-*** Too Country
Don't Cry, Spike-**** Great Version of "Don't Cry"
Patience, John Corabi-***** Simply Sweet
Civil War, Christina Kartsonakis-***** A woman version of "Civil War" is a great idea. It sounds beautiful.
