Editorial Reviews

Brian Setzer's smash hit "Rockabilly Riot! Tour" saw him rock four different continents: Europe, North America, Japan, and Australia! We took the very best from every show to put together this amazing album! It's an all-out assault. An overcharged and thrilling attack of American rock n' roll. This lineup includes two (YES TWO!) slappin' stand-up bassists (each bringing some extra thump to the party,) two (YES TWO!) drummers, one being none other than Stray Cat Slim Jim Phantom, and a on-fire boogie-woogie piano.

If you are a fan of this music genre or of great guitar work, this album will be pleasing indeed. It goes without saying, "If you are a Setzer fan...". The band configuration, after so many years and releases of the Setzer Orchestra, is pared down quite a bit, giving listeners a wonderful opportunity to really hear the guitar work, as well as the accomplished musicianship of the other band members (there's some great piano work here too). The material focuses on Setzer's Rockabilly repetoire as the title implies, however there is a great version of This Cat's on a Hot Tin Roof that stands up fine without the support of a horn section and big band. Setzer's take on Folsom Prison is fresh, keeping enough of the recognizable classic while putting his unique stamp on it. There's great renditions of genre classics otherwise not on record, and fine performances of his own and Stray Cats material. The only downside, if you could call it that, is you will probably not be able to avoid buying the limited edition vinyl just to get the tracks not available on this version. A ten minute version of Fishnet Stockings? This band's version of Stray Cat Strut? Who could resist? Overall, this cat's red hot! 5/5!

Brian Setzer Orchestra I can do without. Brian Setzer Rockabilly Riot I wouldn't miss for the the world. Nobody does it better than Setzer. I saw this tour in Chicago and was blown away. Honestly it was one of the best shows I ever saw. That's saying something considering I've been doing concerts for over 30 years. The songs are great and the musicianship is outstanding. The only issue I have is that each song is from a different show, so instead of having a smooth flowing show you have breaks between every number. It would be nice to catch more of the true song transition and dialog between numbers. Other than that I can't complain. There is not a dull moment on this disk. It's a must have for any rockabilly fan.

Finally, a live cd covering a WHOLE Setzer tour and not just a SINGLE show. This is a cd that every Setzer fan can enjoy. It is ROCKIN the whole way through. It is nice to see a different lineup then the usual Setzer fare. "Rock This Town" and "Stray Cat Strut" are not included, BUT these are probably two of the best live versions of "Runaway Boys" and "Rumble In Brighton" I have heard. The version put down here of "Put Your Cat Clothes On" is worth the price of admission by itself. Hopefully, Setzer will continue his new trend of giving a cd of the "best" of the whole tour......because everyone knows that "Setzer live" is so much better because of the improvisational skills he has, than he is on record(Not saying that's bad). I only wish this cd had come out at the beginning of the summer instead of fall, because the volume I like to play it at is rattling my windows..........THIS CD IS GREAT!!!

Brian Setzer and the Brian Setzer Orch. rather pure
Rockabilly or other produce some of the best sounds
going. Put that Gretsch in his hands along with his
vocal stylings and you have a sound others only dream
about.... This new CD just totally rules in Rock and
Roll Music Period

Simply, everything Brian Setzer does seems to be a 5 star in my book. He loves big band & rockabilly & bounces from one to the other, always with great results. This a classic & worthy of the 4.7/5.0 rating.

Another great live album. All performences captured as is with little studio touch ups. Playing is superb and Setzer is the master at changing things up a bit to keep it fresh. Highly recommended...

Hey what can I say?? It's Brian!! If your a fan of his fantastic rockabilly style you will love this!! Taped live at different locations around the U.S.A. it's Brian at his best without the big band. Just 4 guys on the stage rocking & having fun. I was at this show in both Seattle, Washington & the 2 shows he did in Spokane, Washington 2 weeks later. Best concert ever!! Could not sit for a minute!! Buy this cd you won't regret it...

I've been going to Setzer's concerts for 30 years now, safe to say I know what I speak of. What makes this album a true standout for all Rockabilly fans, and should create many new ones is that Brian never cheats his fans. Most artists today and in years gone by will either totally rest on the laurels of their heyday, others do just the opposite and abandon why they were loved in the beginning. By this I mean they put out and perform only new music thinking they need to completely reinvent themselves to stay relevant, to sell us on their current work or they'll fade into obscurity. No band stays on top for a lifetime, it's the ones that evolve but embrace their roots that remain in the music world. Will Justin Beiber have an international fan base and put out new material that will sell CD's when he's 53? Not a chance.
Go to a Setzer show as I did 2 nights ago and you'll get the Orchestra, then just the 3 piece band, then the Stray Cats classics and a few newer cuts he "introduces" to his fans, he doesn't force-feed them down our throats. You'll never leave a Setzer show like I have so many other artists saying "why didn't he play any of...". It's always nice to see when an artist that goes solo and makes it big still chooses to work with his former bandmates as well (Slim Jim), loyalty goes a long way to devoted fans and it's great to see men in today's music industry abandon their ego's for the greater good. When they're old and grey, no one will care more than the ones they took the journey with, not even the most enthusiastic fans. Thanks for the newer cuts and the stuff and the cuts we grew to love you for, that's how you hold a fan. Buy this CD and go see him on his next tour, regardless of the band configuration, you'll have a "riot"!
