In drunkenly weaves Dax, unwitting rescuer/intentional kidnapper (tomato /po-tah-toh), and Pippa Grant style mayhem is ensues. I love his character and he complements Willow so well. Between the protective donkey, stilt walking security, wayward band mate, a witch's hex, a bus full of nuns, missing money and over- protective friends and family, Willow's adventurous soul momentarily finds release.
I absolutely love this book. I say that with every Pippa Grant book, and each one gets better. This one? So hot! So. Many. Feels! Omg! Tissues for the laughing tears and the crying kind, and dry knickers should be a requirement when reading this book. I usually recommend grabbing a big girl beverage of choice as well when getting comfy to read a good book. With Pippa Grant I feel the need to do the opposite... Do not eat or drink anything while reading her books. When, out of the blue, you start laughing out loud with tears streaming down your face , that's just a choking hazard waiting to happen. Really, who wants to potentially require CPR and risk interrupting a truly fabulous book when they don't have to?
Once again, I give Pippa an Amazon five star review, but a 10+ from my book-loving heart. As always, I'm looking forward to what comes next from this rom-com writing genius.
It's not to say this writer doesn't have talent or that the books aren't good. They aren't to my taste, and I simply get turned off by snark and sass in a female when it's constant. No variation means the writer has type-cast her females, though her name choices are unique rather than typical. I did not like this book, and am ambivalent about this series.
I have to admit this was the first Pippa Grant book I purchased. I was looking for a new Rockstar book. While reading some of the reviews, I discovered it was part of a series, and that some of the secondary characters in this book, had their own stories. So of course, I had to backtrack and read the earlier books. I’ve loved all of them, glad I went back. While each book is a standalone, there are hints, and inside jokes, if you will, that you’ll miss without the earlier stories.
I loved Dax and Willow.
What starts out as a kidnapping/runaway bride situation, quickly becomes something quite different.
Willow finally realizes what all of her family and friends have known for quite awhile, her fiancé is a flake. With the help and blessings of her stepbrothers, she runs away the night before the wedding. Only to run into the arms of a desperate Dax.
Dax has a, sort of, plan. He needs Willow to leverage her fiancé to recover his money. But it was apparent from the start, that he was, deep down, a good guy. But in a very desperate situation.
It doesn’t take long for Willow to flip their roles as she becomes the one issuing the orders. Their “kidnapping” quickly becomes one epic adventure. No money, no clothes, no passports. Relying only on the kindness of strangers, Willow sets out to cross some things off of her bucket list.
And along the way both of them have life changing epiphanies. Willow learns to live in the moment. Realizing she doesn’t have to always be the perfect daughter or the prim pre-school teacher. It’s ok to step outside of her comfort zone. Dax quickly forgets about his money, realizing there are more important things to life. Like remembering to live. Not everyone he encounters is looking for what he can do for them. Some want to be with him. The man. Not the wealthy Rockstar. Just him.
The book was laugh out loud funny. You have donkeys, sheep, cows, a hatchet wielding Scotswoman, a van full of nuns and Belgiums on stilts, and that’s only a small sampling of what they encounter.
It does have a happy ending. No cheating, no drama. I loved seeing all of the past characters show up for the big “rescue”.
My only disappointment was that the ending felt rushed. Like there were chunks missing. And I really wanted the Ex’s story. What happened to him, with him? It was just left hanging.

Willow is another amazing female character, brought to life via Pippa's skill and imagination. This is a young woman finding out who she truly is and liking what she discovers.
Dax by contrast, is becoming disillusioned with the world and his place in it.
Together, they are beautiful. They challenge and compliment each others personalities.
There are plenty of madcap adventures and wacky characters that bring the fun and laughs.
This really is a dose of happiness and giggles, that we all need from time to time.
Love this times a billion 💜
Thus is a sweet story about finding yourself, a love story, and a hilarious boat and road trip with shenanigans galore story. And nuns. And stilt walkers.
Just read it. That is all.
Absolutely recommended as are all of Pippa Grants books.
If there is one thing to say about Pippa Grant is she is awesomely talented to create each time a new story with crazy characters, laughing out loud moments and incredible storylines, each new story is a whole new world even with already known characters.
I do loved this insane road trip.
From the worst kidnapper ever to the craziest kidnapped world known to a big monkey attack, a stilts battle, nuns breaking free and more and more.
Dax and Willow are both very attaching characters, he with all his flaws, failed marriages, but also his love for his friends and his pop. She for her insanity when she lets it free, also her cute and careful side to not hurt those she loves.
This journey will see them growing up, Dax will understand money is not all, Love is as if not more precious while Willow will for once revel her true self hidden under her usual so prim and proper appearance.
Impossible to sum up this book but if you’re in for keep a smile au day long in your face ride, this one is for you.
