We met AnnaBelle in the previous book when Bre was injured and learned that she grew up with the members of Other World in Tennessee. Anna also manages bands but seems to be a more politically correct version of Emmie yet she still is as tough with her clients and takes no crap from anyone. Anna had to grow up in less than ideal circumstances which forced her to adapt to her surroundings and at times make use of a steely backbone. At seventeen years old her entire world changed when the man/boy she loved left her and never looked back, so how can anyone expect her to be civil to him when she is forced to be in the same room as Zander Brockman again.
Zander is the so called "last man standing" in the band that hasn't fallen for a woman. He thinks it's comical how all the guys have fallen one after another while he has sat back and watched the show. Zander realized rather quickly the only reason he isn't one of the fallen is because he left his heart in Tennessee seventeen years ago with the girl he loved. By no means has he been a monk over the years but he is definitely the least likely to wake up with a stranger. Now that he has seen Anna again it is like his heart has started beating just for her and he will stop at nothing to get her back. Circumstances exist that may stand in his way but Zander is determined to keep his promise that he made all those years ago.
While this book is a bit different from the other Rocker books with about a third of the book being told in the past it did not deter from the story at all. You got a feel for the characters and their families as well as watching their love story unfold. I can't wait for the final book in the series to see the author tie up all the loose ends with the adult rockers so we can move on to their kid's books next :)
This book focuses on Zander and Annabelle's story. About half of the book focuses on their past, and half focuses on the present. We finally learn why Zander and Annabelle parted ways.
These two have been friends since they were young. They lived next door to each other, and supported one another when they were struggling to cope with parental loss. Although Zander is older than Annabelle, and he is best friends with her brother Noah, the two just seemed to click. Zander has really bad OCD, and Anna (as he called her) helped ease the torment inside his head. She brought him peace. As they grew older, their relationship took a turn from friends to something deeper. They fell in love. Unfortunately the timing was bad for the two because Zander's band OtherWorld was just getting their big break and moving across the country. And while they promised to stay true to the love they had for each other, life happens.
Fast forward seventeen years later, and their story resumes. The two reconnect while Anna is in town helping Brie after her accident. Although Anna claims that she wants nothing to do with Zander anymore, fate steps in and the two are forced to work through their issues.
I can't give away any secrets about what happens at this point, but let me just say that their story gutted me. This was an ugly cry for me. I felt every moment of their pain and anguish down to my soul. All of the rocker series books have been incredibly painful at times, and they have all certainly had their own issues to overcome, but this book really spoke to me on another level. I absolutely loved it! I think that it was smart to start their story back at the beginning, when OtherWorld was still trying to make it, and they were just hopeful rockers. The back story really helped cement this band for me. With Demon's Wings we get a more in-depth telling of their story from the first book, and while the things that happened in OtherWorld's past were mentioned, it wasn't really until this story that I felt it all really came together.
The only things I had any issues with were that the initial story dragged a little bit. I wish more time had been spent on their present. I also felt like the ending was a little abrupt. The epilogue wasn't very long, and until I saw that there was going to be one more book to tie the whole series together, I wasn't really happy with where it ended. I am happy that there will be another story to solve the mystery of the attacks on the band, and though I have my theories, I'm not going to share them since I don't want to spoil anything if I am right.
I really loved the chemistry between Anna and Zander. I thought that they were a really great couple, and I liked that there were some unusual events that occurred with them. It definitely added an element of surprise which I really enjoyed. I think that this series is truly amazing, and I will be sad to see it end. I guess I will just have to re-read it so I can get my rocker fix. I absolutely recommend this book, as well as the whole series. It touches on everything that you could want in a book-kickass heroines, alpha males, hot rockers, lots of drama, forgiveness and overcoming painful pasts, a great family, and love that never ends. Go get this book now!
Zander Brock knows Annabelle Cassidy should be off limits . She's everything that is good. Everything inside him says to keep her safe and protect her by walking away. So that is what he does. Seventeen long years ago......
I loved this read. One of my favorite parts of a book is the backstory and this author tied the past in with the present so it didn't over state the main focus. It was like getting two books in one. Zander was a complex character. The first part of the book when he was playing the hero I was cheering him on but when he flipped the switch in the second half it was like the beast had come out to play and I wanted to shake some sense into him. Annabelle had an inner strength that was rivaled by none. The innocence of first love and the pain of first heartbreak. Terri Anne Browning brought it all to life for me. Great job. I can't wait for the next one. I will recommend this book to anyone that likes a true love story.
