The magic is in the pen, not the paper. BUT this notebook is still great!

I have had this notebook for a few weeks and getting ready to buy a 2nd one. I have been using Pilot Frixion Clicker pens and Frixion Highlighters for a long time. Kids like the Frixion markers for coloring something, erasing, and then re-coloring. With that being said, let me give you my impression of both Frixion line of pens and this notebook.

FIRST: Pilot Frixtion line of pens, highlighters, magic markers etc is where the REAL magic lies - not in the paper. You can use your Frixion pen/highlighter/magic markers to write on any type of paper (index cards, newspaper, printer paper, notebook paper, coloring books, etc) and erase the ink by either using the special Frixion Erasers and erasing as if using a pencil eraser (regular erasers will not work, must be a Frixion eraser) OR by heating the paper for a few seconds either with a hairdryer (thats what my kids use) or over a lightbulb, candle flame (be careful) or any other heat source. The ink will disappear (although still somewhat barely readable). To bring the ink back just put the paper in the freezer for a few minutes and magically what you erased is now back and fully readable as if never erased. Kids love doing "secret messages" this way, and it keeps them entertained. Theres a science lesson in there somewhere I'm sure if you wanted to make it a teachable lesson for younger kids. My point being, the frixion line of pens and markers and highlighters all do this without any special notebook or paper required. So if your on a tight budget, order a frixion pen, then if you find you like it using as described above as a test trial, then order this notebook if needed.

Whew, are you still with me? Seriously I didn't mean for this to be so long lol :)

SECOND: Although I have been using Frixion pens and highlighters for years to make notes, erase, bring back from beyond etc in just a regular spiral notebook and even index cards as flash cards, I love this rocketbook wave notebook. Again, I can get the same functionality from any generic spiral notebook using the correct pens, but I love that the rocketbook adds the functionality of the direct scan to specific folders you set up. I do use Evernote to scan/store a lot of my notes before erasing them, but using this notebook eliminates a few steps in the process making it quicker. I also like the microwave ability to erase several pages all at once. My current way (applying a heat source or eraser) I can only do 1 page at a time so takes longer (a microwave safe notebook is much faster). So scanning and sharing to correct folder is now 1 step, as well as erasing all notes at 1 time is 1 step.

Although the product description does not mention it DO REMEMBER any of your 'erased' notes can be brought back to life in full view simply by placing them in a freezer for a few minutes. Say you accidentally erase something you didn't want erased (me: leaving a notebook in car on a hot summer afternoon erased my precious notes) - place it in freezer to restore it. So (point to ponder) just like the hard drive of your phone and computer - just because you erased something, doesn't mean its really gone is all Im saying, theres always traces. Example, never use a Frixion pen to write down sensitive information (passwords, account info, etc). Because after you erase them, all someone has to do is place in freezer to bring the information back.

Rocketbook is somewhat ok, but I think there are more convenient and more effective ways to do the same thing.

I've had the Rocketbook Wave for about a week. My initial impression is that it's ok, but not yet great.

I like the idea that I can write in a notebook (or with paper available from rocketbook's website). But I can write on many notebooks, so there is no game changer here.

I like the idea that I can scan the pages I wrote and then, relatively quickly, send those pages to a variety of cloud services or email accounts, using the Rocketbook app. But I can do that with other apps - like Scannable, scansnap, or scanner pro (among other apps).

With the other apps, I can scan multiple pages into the same pdf or other file. I have not figured out how to do that with rocketbook, so with that app, i get separate pdf pages. I'm still looking for a way to fix that.

I'm not crazy about the microwave feature for two reasons. The first reason is rocket books requires the microwave to have a rotating turntable. I have that, but my microwave is too small, so the book cannot rotate. I did not know about that constraint until I read the small print. The second reason is the notebook apparently lasts for about 5 erasures. Clearly not the last note book one will buy.

So, after one week, I find myself wondering what the big deal is. I may be missing something. It seems to me buying a notebook you like, taking pictures of the pages you've written on with one of several functional scanner apps, and then sending them to your favorite cloud service does the same thing rocketbook does. But with less hassle.

I'll keep using the rocketbook and the app for awhile longer, and revise this review if appropriate.

December 15, 2016 update:

Rocketbook is coming out with another version of their notebook. It's called the Everlast Notebook. It is due sometime in April 2017. The original notebook could be used about 5 times. The Everlast (according to the manufacturer) can be used about 1000 times. The original notebook was erased in a microwave oven. According to the manufacturer, "The Rocketbook Everlast can be reused by wiping the page clean with a moist towel." Search for "The Everlast Notebook" on kickstarter for details.

Too big for my microwave

I ultimately would have loved this reusable notebook. The one note I wrote easily dropped right into my Evernote account. I ended up having to return it, because it was too large for my microwave, so it wouldn't turn as the microwave plate turned. I ordered their Everlast through Rocketbook's Indiegogo program. I haven't received it yet but am excited about getting it. The Everlast isn't erased by heat. Instead, you just wipe it clean with a WET papertowel. So, you can erase and use forever. Unlike the Wave, which stops erasing after about 10 trips through the microwave.

Using this for an online class and sofar I really enjoy it. Pen writes smooth which is a big selling point for me. I have yet to microwave it because I have not filled it up yet. But the scanning is incredibly useful; as a student I am amble to study on the go with out bringing a notebook. I purchased the executive edition and the size is perfect for travel.

Great notebook. It is very handy if you do a lot of writing. When I microwaved it the pages seem to warp and the pen impression are still in the paper but when re-linked to the phone the pages look fine.

Love the Rocketbook! Bought them for my children who love to draw and doodle notes. Now they can draw to their heart's content and I can save all of their pictures with the option to print them out in the future. Very convenient to use with the app also.

The wave of the future is here. I see a lot of people with burnt books, but my first microwave test ran great. You must have a rotated disk in the center or else, like some reviewer's, the latter. Do not purchase if you don't have a microwave as described unless you're in the market for a new one.
All in all love, love, love this book... Sooo futuristic 😬

I was not sure how this would work, but boy am I happily surprised. I am a student and I've been trying to find a way to turn my notes digital. I first started to type up everything, but then ran into problems when I needed to draw diagrams and such. I tried a white board and then took pictures of it with a scanner application, but the whiteboard was too small and I didn't have enough space to write; plus the pictures didn't look very quality. This is PERFECT. It aligns perfect with the app and takes a really nice high quality photo of my notes/homework that I store in my Google Drive.

There are people that say that the ink once microwaved remains, and this is true, since the ink doesn't "erase" but rather it changes color. The color it changes to is quite transparent, and is by no means invisible. However, this doesn't bother me. Even though I can still see what I had written previously faintly, my main concern was whether the app would see it. And.... it DOESN'T!! That would have been a deal breaker for me if the app captured the changed ink, but gladly it doesn't. That makes this notebook almost completely reusable and I've used it many more times than the recommended 5 and plan to use it for a long time. Great product.

It took me a while to learn it. But I never give up.
It look easy, guideline is easy to read. But when I'm actually doing it I have a problem scanning it.. So I went to rocket community and write my question also read all the question and answer until I finally learn it.
If your scanning is not working. Move away from the rocket book wave (about 1 feet) until you see the green light or shadow on the background while your scanning it. Then press check below the right side to send it to your chosen designation. Hub and daughter are well impressed. According to instruction I can only erase this 5X. Will see how far will go...

Shipped with Damage to Front and Back Cover

The notebook is good, but my notebook was shipped outside of its wrapper and was laying in the box. It had damage to the front and back covers, and the bottom of the front cover was chewed. I like the notebook, but am hesitant to order again as it wasn't shipped correctly to prevent damage like this.
