People, People, don't make fun of the fact that these filters are "Oxygen Cleansed." This is a VERY good thing. In earlier times, most white paper filters were whitened with bleach. This process creates dioxin, a chemical which is highly carcinogenic (causes cancer). Not only was this not very friendly to our health and the environment, the bleach imparted nasty flavor overtones to the paper, and thus to our coffee. Today, most white paper filters are whitened with oxygen. Oxygen whitening is much more friendly to the environment, and imparts no taste to the filter. Brown filters are simply un-whitened. Your choice, but oxygen whitened filters are usually less expensive.

I'm not sure what role oxygen had to play in the manufacture of these filters (see description), but they work just fine, and the price is right. They are the same size as competitors' filters. In a few weeks of use I have found they hold up well to normal use. You can grab them out of the coffee maker to throw away old grounds without any worries that the filter will rip open or anything like that.

The bull's eye store was once a reliable source for coffee filters in bulk, but those days are long gone. Ditto for the ubiquitous corner drugstore chains. Even the upstart cost-cutting mini grocers sell No. 4 cone coffee filters at boutique prices.

Rockline is the second-biggest American producer of Melitta-type cone filters and the No. 1 producer of private label brands, so I know they can be trusted. Maybe my taste buds are pedestrian but I can't detect a difference in flavor when I brew 100% Colombian coffee with these filters or with unbleached filters. Similarly, the "flavor pores" and rippled texture of the leading brand don't seem to make much difference. Where I really feel it is in my wallet. When I get down to the last bag, I bundle these into an order that's eligible for free shipping.

As to sturdiness, I've never have one blow apart. Just remember to fold and crease the crimped seam before placing the filter in the basket, and when the coffee's brewed, grab the filter by the folded seam to lift it out.

OK so for those health conscious individuals, they would probably prefer the brown one or unbleached filters. Because of the chemicals used in the bleaching process, bad for the health. This one is oxygen bleached (not the oxy bleach you find in detergent but literally using oxygen to bleach these filters), they would still use chemicals to bleach this white completely but not as much since oxygen had done most of the job. But still, the kind of bleach factories used to bleach paper these days are not the same stuff they used before EPA & the rest of the world wised up to the harmful effect the waste products did to the water (ergo fishes & other seafoods we eat). And yes they're still bad for your health since they're chemicals not meant to be ingested but not toxic & most of the chemicals would be in the pulp and the actual paper would contain only trace amounts that it's negligible. And even if you eat the filters 3x a day, it would probably take several lifetimes before it will kill you, LOL!

As for the product itself, it works as it suppose to.

These are the tapered filters that fit the Zojirushi perfectly. Good price. I don't know if 'oxygen cleansed' means that they are better, but there is no odor as with some other filters. Will order these again and again.

These filters seem about on par with the Melitta No. 4 white paper filters. Excellent price, especially with PRIME shipping. I would have preferred unbleached ones but then I heard some companies simply dye them light brown to look unbleached!

This might be the best price you'll find for 400 filters. I do like the unbleached ones better, but these work perfectly fine. Plus you can really taste the oxygen (sarcasm).

I opened up a package of these filters a month or so ago, and I'm perfectly satisfied with them... except that they occasionally burst open and fill my cup with grounds. In this package, it's been about one dud in 10. I've never had this problem with coffee filters before. Will not be buying again.
