I have a Fein tool and needed to get another because I have a large crew. I do remodels of kitchen and bathrooms and use the Fein tool on every job but needed another and did not want to pay the price for my crew to abuse so I bought the Rockwell and I hate to say it but I really like the Rockwell better. It accepts all blades and is super easy to change out and cost savings is huge as you know the prime cost of these tools are the various blades etc. Get it.. you won't regret it!

I bought this to replace a Dremel multi-tool and I couldn't be more satisfied. This Sonicrafter puts the Dremel to shame. It is quieter, more powerful and cuts much quicker. I purchased the Hyperlock model to take advantage of generic cutter heads and it doesn't disappoint. For the price, I would rate it equal to the more expensive brands of this type of tool.

What good is a really stupid mistake, UNLESS it allows you to buy a new tool like this one. I miss-measured the position for the placement of a bulkhead in a kayak I was constructing. I then used cab-o-sil thickened epoxy to glue the bulkhead into place with nice thick fillets. After I finished some other work on the boat, I climbed in and felt a sinking feeling as the bulkhead position made the cockpit too snug for me. I wanted to cry. I was able to use the boat, but it was not comfortable. I considered my options for removing the bulkhead. Cab-o-sil renders epoxy very tough, hard, and notoriously difficult to sand. Then I read up on oscillating tools and decided to get the Rockwell. It took me less than a half hour (28 minutes) to cut out the bulkhead. Even better: so little of the bulkhead was removed that now it slides into place at the proper position. I have some sanding to do, but I will use this tool to do that as well. The unit was only slightly warm after a half hour of use.

Please note that this is my FIRST oscillating tool, so I have nothing to compare it to.

I went to the local Lowe's with the intention of purchasing the Dremel Multi-Max tool, however because they were out of stock I was able to get the Rockwell version for a little bit lower price ($89 + tax, $99 - 10% military discount).

I'm not in a profession that uses this tool and not wealthy enough to hire one so most of the work is done by me. That said, my review would be for someone with beginner to intermediate experience with an oscillating tool.

Overall,I find it a good tool for the money and hope this review helps.

PROS:
Plenty of power for cutting through 2x4's and drywall (which is all I have used it for so far), so i'm sure it won't have any problems with the remainder of my projects.
Good length power cord
It has a nice locking system, but me not reading the instructions first gave me some trouble. After you get it to the tightness you need, you actually have to flip the handle to be able to easily lock it in place.

Cons:

It only comes with a few blades, and the tile grout tool isn't one of them.
I have not tested it, but researching found that other brand accessories won't lock into place (not truly universal). Not sure if it does matter, but I won't be the one who tests it out. ([...])

Other Thoughts
Rockwell blades are $10 for an individual (lowes.com), but you'll save money by buying in bulk.

I love power tools and don't usually give my opinion until I have reached a conclusion. I thought I would have to use this one for a while until I made up my mind as to if it was good or bad. It only took me a few uses to know I had a winner! It is a well balanced tool. I thought it would vibrate alot but only minimal. Just the right size. Very comfortable fit in the hand. The blade changing was real easy and well made. Looks like it should last for a long time. I really like that I can vary the oscillations to what ever speed I want. Sometimes you just want to be careful at what you are doing and want to ease into your work and not go full bore like some tools you turn on and you don't have full control of their cutting abiliy. The usage of different blade manufacturers is a big plus as is the nice carrying case. You can't go wrong buying this tool even if you only use it every once in a while for those special projects that other tools won't do the job. It's a keeper!

I originally bought the Dremel version of this tool and have used it for years. I decided to buy this one as a replacement. It is much better than the Dremel. It does not overheat. It is far sturdier. The quick change blade mechanism works great. It runs smooth and is reasonably quiet for such a tool. So far I have used it for cutting off wood tenons, for scraping dried excess glue, and for cutting off metal rod. It worked great for each task and I was able to use my Dremel blades. The carrying case is so so but who cares as long as the tool is good.

5 Months Later(August 2014):
I use my Sonicrafter all the time. I'm doing a utility room remodel. I used it to open up a wall by slitting the drywall. It does such a neat cut that I can reuse the drywall to patch the hole. It also is superb at trimming molding in place such as the bottom of door frame molding when laying tile. The quick release holds well and the cord is amazingly long. The only thing I think they should have done differently is to make the quick release lever from metal instead of plastic. I noticed that the tools that cost around $175 have metal quick release levers. I have been buying Dremel blades which fit fine. I haven't tried blades other than the Rockwell and Dremel.
