The RØDE Lavalier is a discreet lapel microphone that provides broadcast-quality audio when close-miked in almost any scenario.
The Lavalier's low self-noise, user friendly omni-directional polar pattern and minimal appearance make it an ideal solution for film, television, video, theatre, house of worship and anywhere where a high quality microphone needs to be heard but not seen.
The microphone capsule is connected via a 1.2 meter (4 inch) shielded, detachable Kevlar reinforced cable that has been rigorously strain tested up to 10kg to ensure reliable performance.
The included mini-furry for high wind protection ensures quality recordings in adverse environments, and the included cable management clips ensure that you are able to minimise the microphone and cable visibility, while providing maximum mobility for the wearer.
The supplied anti-trauma water resistant case provides rugged and secure protection for the microphone, cable, clips and included accessories.
Knowing that versatility is paramount in any product, RØDE has developed the MiCon connector system which provides seamless integration between the Lavalier and a wide range of wireless systems as well as consoles, cameras and portable recorders.
The RØDE Lavalier lapel microphone is designed and made in Australia and is covered by RØDE Microphones' innovative 5 year 'no questions asked' warranty which provides 12 months of complete cover, and an optional US$99 replacement microphone during the extended warranty period.

What's black and skimpy and goes well with anything? ...the RODE Lavalier, of course! Seriously, this might just be that last lav you ever need to buy. Why? 'Cause you can use it with ANY system! Here's how it works. Some dude at RODE was like "golly, what kind of connector should we put on our super-cool new Lavalier microphone?" And some other dude was like "how about we put on a little jack that lets you snap on adapters for anything?" And everyone at RODE was like, "woah!" And so they did it.
Top customer reviews
I sent it off to Rode and they sent me a brand new one with no hassles whatsoever and they rushed it when I told them I had a job I needed it for. I didn't buy their extended warranty or anything, this was strictly off contacting them and asking them about it. I had to send them my receipt from Amazon but at that point I think it was already 6 months old in terms of time from purchase to use. They didn't question me, they didn't give me the run around, they didn't even try to replace just one piece or something...they just sent me a new one.
I've had a few interactions with Rode and they've always been very courteous and their equipment is excellent value.
As for this mic...my ONLY beef is that it does seem relatively delicate. IT'S NOT, but it sure feels it. Of course, you should always treat a higher end mic with a lot of care, so perhaps it's a good thing that it "feels" delicate.
The hard case is a wonderful addition and my only suggestion to rode would be to make it easier to get the tie clip on and off without having to unscrew one of the micon connectors.
Update: I have since been using this mic a lot more and I have to tell you - the sound quality is excellent when A/Bed against just about anything I can get my hands on. I'm sure there are better "pro" mics out there, but here you're starting to get into the law of diminishing returns if you ask me. I am using this with a Sennheiser G3 wireless kit and it's pretty incredible how much more natural and "warm" this mic sounds versus the ME 2 (stock) microphone. The difference isn't subtle, it's pretty much night and day.
My only continued beef is that there's not much "stress relief" on the micon connector so I'm constantly worried (maybe it's strong enough by design) that it's going to eventually short. I guess time will tell. This is year 2 and still going strong.
The mic sounds good. No complaints as to the sound. My only concern is the thinness of the cable and how it screws to the different adapters.
It just seems very delicate. You have to be very deliberate with how you handle it... If you are rough with things it might not be the best choice for you .... But then again... even if the cable breaks at the connector... its just the cable.. the mic would still work fine... so it would just be a situation where you would need a new cable. The idea to have different connectors is great one. If you purchase a hardwired lav to a specific connector .. that's all its ever going to be. But with this it gives you a ton of flexibility.
