I bought this mic for my canon 6D mark II I do product reviews on youtube (channel MKvapor)
I tried the mic when I got it there were a hissing noise sometimes crackling noise so I looked up the problem on youtube to find a solution for it watched 5 videos and their solution was to throw it away and thats the same solution rode would give you if you call them they will say oh have you heard about our video mic pro + its like I bought a chevy cruze that only drives in revers if i go to the dealership they tell me have you heard about our Cadillac escalade. there is no fix for the problem its just BAD. I had to make a video for a product it was to be dune the 29th of November and I was stuck with this mic over 300 comments n my video were about how bad the sound is. now after losing my subscribers and views =$ also the dissatisfaction of the company with the video I have to go throw return and spending $200 more to get the decent mic and having to wait for it.
1. Some say it is too close to Wi-Fi and/or my cell phone, moved it away from those sources, same problem.
2. Others say that the cord that comes with the mic sucks for some buyers and not for others. I replaced it with a 3rd party cord, and the issue still was present, but only sometimes.
3. Lastly I though maybe it was the camera. I just tried it on a new Sony A7III (I was using the Panasonic G85) and I got the same issue!
This is so frustrating because the last video I did was one of the most important audio clips I have ever recorded and I am devastated that the sound issue still exists. Don't trust this mic with anything that is important to you!
I am convinced that some people end up with a awesome mic while others have gotten a bad batch! I'm done trying to troubleshoot this, time to switch to a brand that is more reliable, I can't risk another horrible sounding video. In my opinion sound is the most important part of any video. If I could choose 0 Stars for this review I would.
If you use this in a house with Wifi or within 10 feet of a wireless device, this microphone will record a choppy, static sound that you won't be able to edit out in post. This microphone picks up my Smartphone wifi and my camera's wifi. I have the mic seated on top of a Canon M50 using the flash shoe.
I have tried shielding the stock cable, and I have tried other cables with better shielding & shapes (straight vs coiled) nothing works. This sound defect is unacceptable. Do not buy this mic if you care about how your audio sounds.
First review: I'm reviewing this Rode Mic Go one month after purchasing to give a fair review. It looks just like the picture . The mic is extremely light weight in fact it will not make a different in the weight once mounted on your hot shoe on my DSLR. It can also plug into an iPhone and iPad. I use this mic for all three. If you need to use it with your iPad or iPhone you will need to purchase an adapter called the Rode SC4 microphone cable. Don't purchase the Rode mic without getting the adapter/ mic cable.
It is made of some type of soft flexible plastic material, but it isn't flimsy at all. You need to be close to the microphone in order to receive great audio. A wind guard is needed if you'll use this outside. It picks up the wind noise and every sound of the background outside . I gave it 4 stars because you need to be close to it in order to get great quality. If the camera is mounted on a tripod make sure you are close to it . If it's plugged in it's recording your voice. No worries about on and off switches. There isn't a volume button. It's pretty straight forward. I think it's worth the money for a fairly
decent consumer microphone.
Pros:
- Helps get audio in front of the mic and not so much from behind the mic.
- the Dead cat, (sold separately) is a good add-on to this for those suer windy outdoor recordings
- The audio is quality
- Plug in and Play
Cons:
- Wire is short for bigger rigs

Saludos.
