I'm a Philadelphia-based video editor and if I really like a product I will sing its praises in video form. Here's one for a product I love from a company I love: the Rode Podcaster Booming Kit.

I was lucky enough to try the Podcaster and the Procaster side by side at home, and the Procaster sounds surprisingly better. The microphones are billed as more or less the same, but if you can deal with XLR and having one more thing on your desk, it's worthwhile since the mics are the same price.

If anyone is ever considering doing Pod casting, voice over's, audio books, or just about anything with audio; I would highly recommend you invest in the Rode microphone system. I just received my kit in the mail, did a few test clips in Camtasia Studio 8, and the end product is professional grade all the way! This system is A+. The boom arm gives it that Pro touch and it works flawlessly when trying to angle the mike with your mouth. AND ITS USB POWERED! No pre amps, or other equipment needed. Just plug it in and start talking. Its that simple! This is a must buy if you want a serious microphone for your audio projects!

I just replaced my Blue Yeti with the Rode Podcaster kit, and the difference is amazing. Using the same setup, the Rode picked up no background noise, including my breathing and the computer fan. I no longer sound like Darth Vader when I inhale. This will save time by not having to do noise reduction, and it will eliminate the tinny sound that noise reduction can cause. My one improvement suggestion is for the PSA1 Arm: I wish the central joint had adjustable tension. The arm is just barely strong enough to support the weight of the mic and shock mount, so when I try attaching a small, homemade noise shield, the arm droops.

This is a great product pairing. Everything feels solids and well made. I've used it for more than 1 year trouble free. The entire set up has survived numerous trips from home to office and back again, plus a long flight to Brazil and back.

If you are looking to get started in podcasting, this gear comes highly recommended.

Podcasting is 2015's shiny new object, and new shows are popping up like kudzu in the South in the Summer. Unfortunately, the sound quality on a lot of these podcasts is really bad, and that's typically because the microphones used to record the shows are really bad. If you can afford it, it's really worth the investment to purchase a professional microphone like the Rode Podcaster. And this kit has everything you need, including the arm and spider mount. It doesn't include a pop filter for the mic, I bought one later, that's up to you. Listeners to my podcast (http://www.mackcollier.com/the-fan-damn-tastic-marketing-show/) immediately commented on the quality of the audio when I switched to this microphone. Well worth the investment.

One note: My kit included a white Rode Podcaster USB microphone, a black spider mount, a black arm and a white USB cord. Some of the pictures show the mic being an almost silver color, as well as the arm and spider mounts being white, with black USB cords. Not sure if those pics are wrong, just letting you know what colors I got. Bottom line: if you can afford this set, absolutely get it.

I can't say enough good things about this mic. I host a Paranormal Talk Show and this Mic is all I could ever want.
Very easy to set up and the sound is, well....just great!
The Mic is heavy....you will notice this right away. Not a cheap-o mic at all. Quality is outstanding and it really brings out the low tones in your voice.
I use a dead cat over the Mic just to be sure I don't have any popping from the mic. Talk close and directly in front of the mic for best results.
By the way, Skype users will love this mic. Makes a huge difference on calls.

I bought this microphone kit for recording video training, and it is a fantastic microphone. I have a Network Attached Storage device that emits a bit of fan noise, and this mike filters it out without having to do any processing in software. It was easy to set up, and has a jack for headphones so you can hear what the mike is recording. The boom and shock mount prevent any noise except the tapping of keys on the keyboard. I was tempted to go with a cheaper mike, but I am really glad I bought this one.
