Rode Reporter Omnidirectional Dynamic Interview Microphone
The Rode Reporter Omnidirectional Dynamic Interview Microphone is designed for handheld interviews and presentation applications. The Reporter features an omnidirectional dynamic capsule that is designed to allow the user freedom of use, without the technique related issues typical of directional end-address microphones.
Additionally its frequency response has been specially tailored for voice reproduction, to maximize intelligibility and deliver crisp, clear results in almost any condition. The microphone also features a durable die-cast aluminum alloy body coated in a discrete matte black anti-glare finish. An innovative multi-layer mesh basket protects the microphone from environmental noise without the need for a bulky and distracting foam wind shield.
It is supplied with a removable microphone ‘flag’ that can accommodate high-visibility branding.

Top Customer Reviews
The included microphone flag is ugly and useless for my purposes. I can't see many people making use of it. I wish Rode included a bunch of windscreens instead. That would have been a much more useful accessory.
While there are microphones that sound better, the ones that I know of cost at least twice as much as the Rode Reporter. For the price, it's a good choice for run-and-gun interviews.
Very tight pick-up patterns pick up voices beautifully without needing to put a mic in someone's face. Great noise rejection for ambient noise but not too much so that it sounds dead. It's a perfect blend of vocal clarity and pleasant ambience. For the price, we got two of them with no regrets. Love these mics!
The XLR fitting requires a different cable if you are going to plug this in to your DSLR, but if you have a P2 camera, most of those are set up for XLR.
Otherwise, get a real 3 or 4 sided flag. I used a cheap plastic one found here and printed a glossy logo on white stock. SPECIAL NOTE: The diameter of the mic shaft is narrower than most handheld dynamic mics, so the mic flag may require a few wraps of tape around the shaft to stay on. Otherwise, this works fine.
I use this mic with a Sennheiser SKP 100 G3 plug-on transmitter, and the sound is fantastic. I couldn't be happier with this purchase!
