although i look all words up on the computer, this book is so handy and so quick and easy to use when i'm writing anything, that it's by my side all the time now. it's fun to just page through and see how the material is presented...I don't think Mr. Roget would be pleased, but I am!

Easy to follow and helpful. Categorizes new words to learn (for example, it has a section for words that mean: Angry) and gives examples for each. Good reference for writers, but for me personally, it didn't quite scratch my vocabulary itch and I still find I'm using an online thesaurus. This is helpful to learn new words overall though, and it makes it easy to remember since they use categories to organize the words, rather than a regular thesaurus where it's basically random

This past Christmas I purchased a number of books to help me build a larger working vocabulary. It's one of my New Year's resolutions. ROGET'S THESAURUS OF WORDS FOR WRITERS isn't set up like most Thesauri and can be enjoyably read from front to back. This book is perfect for what I want to do.

I usually don’t write reviews but I just wanted to be honest! What’s inside is gold, but it has never once had the words I was looking for lol. But I find great stuff if I just look through it. So it’s not bad but not always helpful

This is NOT a thesaurus for serious writers. I was looking for obscure, colorful words - Nada, nothing new here. Words I already use and or are trying to avoid and they are overused.
Buy the updated Thesaurus itself.
What a waste of $15.

Love this book. It is not exactly what I expected and doesn't have all the words i would like to use, but it's a handy reference which allows me options for over-used words. Worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars 英語の難語(hard word)に関心にある人にお薦め
Reviewed in Japan on April 2, 2017
この辞典で驚くべきは全ての語にフルセンテンスの作例、引用例が付いていることである(e.g. Looking at a Japanese customer directly in the eye during conversation is considered an egregious faux pas.)。また巻末の語索引が完備しているので一種の難語辞典としても使える。プロの書き手を目指すネイティブスピーカーを対象にしたシソーラスであるが、難語に関心のある我々日本人にも参考になる点が多い。
