When we last saw Chuck Brandt, he was in dire straits and the major villain had escaped. Another person who has a vested interest in finding the bad guy locates Chuck and is willing to pay for some dirty work. Chuck has his reasons for taking the job even if it means he dies in the process. A noble quest through the Amazonian region might be more than even he can handle.
Even though this is a continuation from Roger Weston’s, The Handler, it could be a stand alone. In my humble opinion, I think any reader should read the whole series to get the true feel for the main character, Chuck Brandt. I love how Mr. Weston shows the various thought process that is entering Chuck’s mind and why he feels the way he does. This makes him feel more like a real person and not just a character in a book.
Warning: This book is for Mature Audiences due to Violence, Adult Language, and Sexual Inferences.
I've been following the series and Mr. Weston since I discovered the first book and it has been a wild journey so far.
I couldn't help hearing a famous line from Guns N Roses; "You're in the jungle baby and your gonna die" as I read this book.
This almost felt like a throwback to the 60's where the war was in the jungles, fighting guerrilla forces, and POWs stashed in fortified work camps.
Chuck is on the hunt. The thirst for vengeance is strong and it doesn't hurt that there is a beautiful woman that needs saving but as we see on the Discovery channel, the hunter can become the hunted in a blink of an eye.
Chuck finds himself in a no-win situation and decides that dying tomorrow is better than dying today and with that decision, his life turns into a living hell at the hands of the enemy he's hunting and a sadistic, power hungry flunky who prides himself on breaking men.
The enemy lacks the understanding of what makes Chuck tick and what he's willing to endure or lengths he's willing to go.
If they did, they'd kill him immediately.
While this is lighter in the action, it makes up for it in an interesting plot line that shows the pure evil of the enemy and why it's so important for Chuck to eliminate them with extreme prejudice.
