Not only are the characters and plot quite wonderful, but so is the setting. Alwyn's England came alive for me with Henry's descriptions. All in all, this is a genuinely five star book.
I loved this and can't wait for the sequel.
Highly highly recommended!
I will admit that Regency period literature is not one of my usual choices of genre. However, I have found over the years that taking a chance and diving into the first novel of a series can often lead to taking a journey I didn’t even know I needed at that time, but which I soon come to realise I
want more of.
This particular journey introduced me to Alwyn Penrose and her sisters, Rowena and Karensa, as they embark on their ‘season’ in London.
There Alwyn encounters an old childhood friend, Sir Perran Geoffrery and the up and down stroll through the social graces minefield begins.
How does a well-dowered young lady navigate her way to making the ideal match in the face of such detailed scrutiny? As Alwyn says, “Love in this day and age was simply too much to ask.”
Could she find the strength to become that spirited young woman, daring to marry for love over the dictates of convention?
Will Alwyn’s touch of daring and bravery in the face of adversity win the day?
Has Perran managed to do all he could to rise above his reputation and win Alwyn’s hand and the wealth he needs to save is family home?
Charlotte Henry has now lured me into this world and I look forward to the next two episodes in the series.
As always, the author gives us someone we can “love to hate” in the form of an unassuming villain, side characters with enough depth and personality that you anxiously await the next book to learn more about them and their life.
Her description of characters, materials and landscapes gives a reader visuals as you read. As if you are there.
Great story! Can not wait for the next story in the series to be released.
