Extend the range of your Canon or Nikon DSLR camera's pop-up flash
Rogue Safari uses an optically engineered fresnel lens to focus the light from a DSLR camera's pop-up flash to greatly increase the available flash power at extended distances. The Safari lens takes light that would otherwise be spread out at short range and instead focuses it in a smaller area to extend the range of the pop-up flash. Safari is intended to be used with lens focal lengths greater than 100mm and is ideal for use with all-in-one telephoto zoom lenses, including: 16-300mm, 18-135mm, 18-200mm, 18-250mm, 18-270mm, 55-200mm, and 55-250mm lenses. When Safari is used with wider angle lens focal lengths less than 100mm, it is normal to see some vignetting (dark edges around the image).

Weighing just 2 oz., Safari fits easily in your camera bag.
More light gives you sharper images with better color
Current DSLR pop-up flashes provide enough light to photograph subjects closer than 15 feet, but fall short lighting subjects farther away. When photographing subjects beyond 15 feet, the extra light provided by the Rogue Safari means you can get sharper images with better color. The Safari's ability to extend the distance of the pop-up flash is useful anytime you need more light, in flat overcast lighting, shade, even for fill light for back-lit subjects. Small and lightweight, the Rogue Safari is easy to keep in your bag for family outings, youth sports, vacations, and nature photography.
Rogue Safari complements your DSLR camera’s pop-up flash
For many photographers who do not intend on spending hundreds of dollars on an accessory flash, Rogue Safari greatly increases the capability of the pop-up flash at a fraction of the cost. In addition, at only 2 oz, photographers may choose to carry a Rogue Safari in their bag rather than larger, heavier accessory flashes. While Rogue Safari puts out a significant amount of light at a distance compared to a bare pop-up flash, Safari is not intended to replace more expensive accessory flashes for all applications.
Rogue Safari is durable and lightweight
Rogue Safari weighs just 2 oz. (60 g). Molded from rugged polycarbonate materials, the Rogue Safari is designed to travel as a durable companion to your DSLR. The Safari stores easily in your camera bag, and attaches quickly and securely to the DSLR camera's hot shoe.
Rogue Safari camera compatibility
The Rogue Safari is compatible with most Canon APS-C, and all Nikon DX sensor DSLR cameras. Safari compatible Canon cameras include all Canon Digital Rebel cameras introduced since 2005, and the Canon 60D and 70D. Safari compatible Nikon cameras include all DX sensor cameras introduced since 2002. Please note, the Rogue Safari is not compatible with, or is not optimized for use with, Nikon's FX camera bodies such as the D800, D700, or the D600. For a full camera compatibility list please visit our RogueFlash website.
Safari spring mount provides a secure fit. Push Safari firmly into hot shoe past the bump.
How does the Safari attach to my camera?
Rogue Safari attaches securely to a DSLR camera's hot shoe. The molded spring design fits tightly so that it won't fall out during active photography. Because the dimensions of cameras' hot shoes vary significantly between camera brands and models, Safari will fit some cameras more tightly than others. The Safari adjusts to your hot shoe and is designed to slide in and out more easily after several uses as the spring relaxes and adjusts to the hot shoe.
- Focuses pop-up flash light at a distance
- Quickly attaches to DSLR camera's hot shoe
- Optimized for use with lenses >100mm
- No batteries required
- Weighs just 2 oz.

First Impression, I just got this, it looks very fragile, the plastic foot is held by very little support and easily will break. Also it is very hard to instal on the Hot Shoe because the foot is wider than it should be. Taking it out of the hot shoe is even worst. I had to use a flat screw driver to push it out of the hot shoe. I am sure that they did this since they knew that the plastic will were out over time and loosen but I would say that you will break it off before it loosens up. I would give the foot maybe a week or two to break off.
It comes with adaptors to adjust for hight of different popup flashes which is very nice and shows that it was well thought out. But considering the price and the plastic foot I would say it is not worth it. I gave it 3 stars because it works but as a disposable.
I have one very important tip for you based on my experience with "The Better Beamer" that dose the same for Speed-lights.
Do Not leave this on your camera and then leave your camera around the sun. If the sun hit this thing at the right angle it will act as magnifying glass and melt any thing that is in it's path, be it your camera or table top, or car seat or the unit itself. Ask me how I know that.
I tested the flash it works as they said it will. I will update once I have some time with it. Hope this helps.

Update No. 2:
It appears that the Rogue never was designed to work with Nikon FX cameras. The description says it will have sub par performance with D600 whatever that means. it should just say not for D600.
As a DX only product and the fact that Rogue CS rep assures me that it is durable.Read more ›
Thank you for your interest in the Rogue Safari, and for taking the time to write a review for your fellow Amazon shoppers. I just wanted to make a couple of quick remarks about your comments.
1. The Rogue Safari is extremely durable. We understand your concern about the perceived vulnerability of the product's design, however we were very deliberate with our engineering and material selection, and I think you will find that the Safari will not be damaged from attaching, or removing it from the hot shoe. The Safari was designed so that it can withstand a significant amount of flexing and still bounce back into the correct position to maintain proper lens alignment. You can test this by simply pushing the Safari down towards the camera's lens. The Safari will flex all the way down and spring right back into position.
2. The Safari does fit tight when you first attach it to the hot shoe. This is by design because there is such a wide range of hot shoe sizes between the different camera brands and models. However, the Safari will adjust to the hot shoe after several uses because the spring in the foot is designed to relax and the sides of the foot incorporate crush ribs to ensure a proper fit into a variety of hot shoe widths.
If you have any additional questions or concerns I would encourage you to contact our offices directly. We would be happy to speak with you.

Update 29 November 2013: having (frequently) used this gadget for two months, I'll concede I was probably overly pessimistic about it's longevity - it's holding up quite well, although it's not any easier to install or remove. One other factor to take into consideration, it increases the power of the built-in flash but (obviously) does not change the height. If you were having problems with 'red-eye' I don't think this gadget will make life any easier for you. (Please note the manufacturer makes no claims about red-eye.)
We understand how durable products need to be to survive in a camera bag, and we have abused the Safari in our own tests to be sure it's up to the task. The shoe mount was designed with the anticipation of repeated use, and in normal usage situations we have not been able to break it.
If you have any questions or concerns about the product I encourage you to contact our offices directly,
It installed easily, comes off with the right amount of effort, and does what it's supposed to do.
If used on smaller lenses, it will give a circular center-lighted area in an almost black frame. So don't use if you have a small lens.
At first use, the booster would not fit in the hotshoe. Had to sandpaper it a bit, before it could fit. Also hard to get it off when finished using. Once fitted, it did what it was bought for, used on a Nikon D90 with Tokina 100mm lens. Built-in flash output has to be adjusted to -1 or less and shooting in Aperture priority mode gives the best results. Provides stronger flash output, then the built-in only. Results easily visible when shooting with and without the booster. Happy with the purchase. 4 stars because of the fitting and adjusting. Looks cheap, but strong material though.
Thank you for purchasing the Rogue Safari. I am happy to hear that you are happy with your purchase, and for the sake of future customers who might read this review, I just want to make a comment about the fit of the Safari to your Nikon camera.
It is not necessary to modify the Safari in order to attach it to your camera's hot shoe. Camera hot shoes vary in size, and the Safari was designed to adjust to tight fitting hot shoes. While the fit may be tight at first in a Nikon hot shoe, after just a few uses you will discover that the Safari can be comfortably inserted into, and removed from a tight fitting hot shoe.

Do not even think of buying this, cheaply made.
USELESS. Doesn't even get a star.
They DO NOT specify that the camera MUST have a hot shoe!!!!!!!!Published 24 days ago by Virgilio Malagon
Significantly brighter flash but i was expecting an actual individual flash. This goes over your camera flash and magnifies light pretty wellPublished 1 month ago by Santiago Rueda
Seems to work very well. Tough to get on and get off, but it definitely magnifies the light.Published 4 months ago by RJB1207
