Rokinon 20mm F1.8
Full Frame WIde Angle
The 20mm F1.8 ED AS UMC Full Frame Lens from Rokinon is a fast wide-angle prime featuring an intuitive manual focus design and enhanced optical construction.
Two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements are used to reduce both spherical and chromatic aberrations for greater sharpness, clarity, and reduced distortion.
The optics also feature an Ultra Multi-Coating to guard against lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.
The manual focus operation affords working with subjects as close as 7.9" away, and a rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
- Provides a 35mm equivalent focal length of 30mm with APS-C cameras, 32mm with Canon APS-C cameras and 40mm with Micro 4/3 cameras.
- Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also affords greater control over depth of field for selective focus control.
- Full Frame, APS-C and 4/3 sensor coverage
- Non-Rotating 77mm Filter Mount
- Low Chromatic Aberration
- Removable Lens Hood
- Focuses to 7.9 inches

Prime lenses are typically sharper, lighter, and can work in lower lighting conditions than zoom lenses.
Less compromises are involved when a lens can be designed for optimal performance for a specific focal length.
They don't have to overcome all of the additional problems encountered with the extra glass and mechanics required to zoom.
With their typically faster (wider) maximum apertures and fewer lens elements, primes can also gather and pass through more light.
As a result, even in poor lighting conditions, you can generally get better quality images and videos.
Additionally, due to their smaller size and weight, they are perfect for travel, and stealthy street shooting.
Rokinon 20mm F1.8 Full Frame Prime Lens
On a Full Frame sensor camera it provides almost a 14% wider horizontal angle of view than a 24mm lens.
Since 1979, Rokinon lenses and optics have been synonymous with unparalleled quality and integrity. The Rokinon brand continues to deliver on its stellar reputation by providing superbly engineered and innovative products at prices that are affordable. As one of the most popular brands of DSLR camera lenses, you can be confident and secure that Rokinon products will provide outstanding performance with unsurpassed durability.
The Rokinon 20mm F1.8 Wide Angle Lens is its newest, full frame compatible wide angle prime lens. Its bright F1.8 aperture secures a fast shutter speed, even under restricted lighting conditions. It creates outstanding bokeh by highlighting the main object effectively. The lens utilizes Ultra Multi Coating (UMC), two aspherical lenses (AS), and three extra-low dispersion (ED) to minimize aberration and unnecessary light dispersion. The lens comes complete with front and rear lens caps, lens hood, lens pouch, instruction manual and 1 year Rokinon warranty.

Update: the lens went on easier after awhile using it. It's not a bad lens but for me the colors out of it seem a bit flat but that is something easily fixable in post. The price has dropped, I paid full price for it on the great reviews so if you're interested in this lens it's a good buy now at $439 at the time of this update. Certainly a bargain compared to what you'd pay for most full frame lenses. It just won't match the higher quality ultra-wides but then you also aren't paying what those lenses cost.
I’ve read that it’s quite common to receive a defective copy of a Rokinon lens. I will never know whether the one I got was a bad copy, or the lens is not meant to work on a mirrorless full frame camera (equipped with the mount adaptor)
It was a toss up between this Rokinon 20mm 1.8 and the 24mm 1.4, but I ended up with the 20mm because it was close to the perspective I had with my a6000 +12mm (cropped 12mm = 18mm).
Initial thoughts when unboxing was this lens is pretty sizable and weighty. Definitely a bigger profile from what I was used to. I found myself supporting both body and lens when walking around handheld, but that may be because I’m used to a smaller setup. But balance isn’t really an issue for me as I shoot 90% with a tripod. You are taking away from the whole compactness of using a mirrorless system when it seems like you adding 2lbs and 10inches. Again, my opinion, I do like the look of a big lens..
The build quality is great, with great controls. Focus ring is smooth but isn’t as damp as the Samyang 12mm (which I like). I found myself hitting the focus ring out of position more often. One plus is that infinity is truly on the infinity mark, unless the samyang 12mm. Image quality is also great, though when shooting portrait orientation there is a noticeable distortion towards the edges, but thats expected with a wide angle lens. Decently sharp wide open and impressively sharp a couple stops down…not sure what else I can say. This is a good buy, especially compared to the other full framed lenses out there where you’ll be paying a mortgage.
