For its price, it is a good buy, with the following caveats - 1/ remember it is a totally manual lens (exposure and focusing). 2/ don't even try to shoot without a tripod and remote release. 3/ you need to choose a high contrast subject.

If your goal is beautiful, sharp photography, do NOT get this lens! Sure, you get the close-ups you'd expect, but they're not completely in focus. All the photos are soft, no matter what focal length you're using--and it's not a focus issue. They look like a photo taken with the ISO set at 6400. You will be disappointed. This kit is not very expensive for a reason. And the 2x extender doesn't work either. It is NOT a tele-extender like you would purchase from Canon or another major lens manufacturer. Even if you use a tripod and a shutter release, your photos will not be in focus--they will still be soft. I used mine on a wildlife trip in Alaska and was soooooo disappointed! I got better photos using another lens on an older camera and got much better results. After that, I saved up and bought a Canon zoom with one of their extenders and my photos are beautiful. That old saying is definitely true here: "You get what you pay for." It's definitely true in this case. Don't waste your money--do it right the first time!

Couldn't get over how quickly we got this! My husband has already taken photos with it (picture of deer in the pasture behind us). I wish there were instructions specifically for the Nikon D3200, but the only instructions were for two different cameras. You just kind of have to feel your way around, but my husband is definitely happy with it. He has benign familial tremors, and even with that, the quality of the pictures was good.

If you use this lens with your D3100 or D5100 the camera needs to be adjusted to work correctly. Adjust lens speed and aperture, as needed to work. Dealer replaced part that was shipped damage. Trust dealer to stand behind product.

Lens quality seems good. The zoom mechanism is a little interesting, took some getting used to. Camera can move to an angle if you don't get it tightened down properly. Haven't used the 2x extension tube yet. Takes a little time to get set up. You will absolutely need a remote shutter release and a good sturdy tripod. You cannot push the shutter without wiggling the lense. I use it on my Nikon D3100. Have just practiced with it, will see how it works when I go to Kauai next month. Looks like a good lens for the money for the average photographer.

I miss my autofocus but for the money it was well worth manually focusing. When it is extended out it is difficult to focus if you have a short arm span, but for stationary objects and tripod it works good.

If you are on a budget, like 95% of us in the world are lol, this lens is actually AMAZING FOR THE PRICE!!!!! I was not expecting something of this quality for what I paid, compared to the other name brand lenses similar to this that will cost you thousands. Now obviously you aren't going to get national geographic quality images, but if photography/video is simply a hobby for you, don't hesitate because this thing is impressive. I have also blown up a couple of the pictures I have taken at the zoo, and they look incredible. My best photo to date with this lens is of a tiger about 50 yards away from me, which I will post with this review.

this is a cheep product so expect that it wont have the latest perks such as image stasbliser and autofucus, in other words you have to keep super still. Ones you get the hang of that the zoom takes good enough pics
