The Rokinon 8mm f/2.8 UMC Fish-Eye II lens is the second generation of this popular lens for mirrorless cameras. It offers a 12mm focal length equivalency (12.8mm for Canon M) in the 35mm format with a 180° angle of view and a minimum focus distance of 1'. Two aspherical elements and three ED elements minimize aberrations and create clear, high contrast and color-accurate images. A built-in petal-shaped lens hood helps to deflect stray light and protects the front element. The lens's mirrorless mounts include Canon EF-M mount, Fujifilm X mount, Samsung NX mount, and Sony E mount

The only thing I don't like is that the close focus is not very good--this only affects a very small portions of the shots I would ever take, so it's not a major issue to me, but please take note. It's close focus is about 1' away, which is not close enough if you want a small flower or feature to fill up the frame (or even if you want the gimmick shot of the person or dog with a "big nose"). I believe the older, f3.5 fisheye has a closer focus, at least my friend's alpha mount version does. Extension tubes are too thick to allow macro focus on such a small-focal lens, but I found I was able to remove the lens and pull it out about a milimeter to enable close focus, but this required the lens to be rotated 45 degrees to half fit in the bayonet mount, and then the petal hood, no longer aligned, cut off the edges of the image. Since you can't remove the hood on this lens, its not easily corrected.
I've shot with this lens for a couple of weeks doing some fun landscapes, but primarily will be using this lens for surf photography, once I get my housing. It is very light weight and surprisingly very sharp, and quiet fun to use! Build is excellent, and there's no play in the bayonet lens mount.
The build is solid and it has a decent weight to it. The lens cap mounts directly onto the fixed hood, which is nice. I'm not worried about it falling off and it protects the lens very well. This is my second Rokinon lens and I'm not disappointed.

I ordered a 8mm and got a 12mm. I know that 8 x 1.5 = 12 but I wanted the 8mm fisheye for my club photography and instead received a 12mm...Read more
