There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
This will be buried in the mountain of positive reviews, but I'm so irritated at this thing I have to speak up.
I loved it, for the 4 months that it worked. Then about a week ago an "insufficient power" message popped on screen. I was using the original power supply plugged into a wall, as I had from day one.
Naturally, despite 4 months being a ridiculous amount of time to expect something to last that isn't fresh produce, I'm outside the return window.
I tried contacting the company through multiple different avenues. This is no easy task. There is zero contact info on their site, just a maddening loop of seemingly helpful pages that ultimately just send you back to useless "help" videos that cover only the simplest of troubleshooting attempts (also, I discovered their return window is 30 days. 30 DAYS. Doesn't speak well for their confidence in their product). I left messages on their Facebook page and was ignored. (Edit: My original 1-star review got their attention. They gave me an email to reach out to them which returned my message as undeliverable. I didn't think they were such a two-bit operation, but I've never needed their help before)
And this is what has lost them a customer for life. You're big enough to be the name brand everyone thinks of first in streaming media? Then you're big enough to help your customers when they need you. I am an Olympic level grudge holder. Just ask Motorola, who hasn't received a dime from me for over ten years since they treated me similarly. Android TV, here I come.
I tried fixing the problem on my own by swapping out various other power supplies and cords. All of them would seemingly fix it for a few hours, but the message would always return (interestingly, always in the middle of watching a show. Insufficient power?). So clearly a defective unit (after 4 months of no problems). But I'm not going to keep trying different units hoping it was just a fluke, I'm not made of money.
(Final edit: The company sent me a replacement. Replacement power supply, that is, which I could have told them was a waste of time as I'd already tried several other power supplies, but I've learned they don't listen to their customers very well. I suppose sending replacement boxes would be too expensive for them. Sure enough, it lasted about an hour (maybe less as I wasn't actively watching TV at the time) before the error reappeared. So now I have another power supply to add to my collection and a Roku box that's going into the garbage, along with any interest in buying their products ever again. Hope losing a customer (and believe me, I am NOT quiet when I'm unhappy with a company) makes refusing to provide meaningful support worthwhile, Roku. Adios.)
In this case the phrase customer service is an oxy-moron because it is impossible to get through on their phone line and they
clearly believe product service ends at the point of sale. Further; the product manual is a poor attempt at describing the operation
or troubleshooting it. I.E. I am returning my express model because I am constantly notified via TV that I have an inadequate USB connection
to the Roku player and the device is not receiving enough power when in fact I have the device connected to an AC outlet via the adapter
supplied with the device. I have returned this device for replacement and am regretting not buying the Amazon Fire instead. I suggest any
potential customers try to contact (or try) customer service before making your purchase.
There's many options on it, but I only use Hulu, Netflix, and my Amazon Prime on it. We don't even bother paying for television.
Super easy to set up. Although I had the original Ruku, which I ended up liking better than this one. This one seems to freeze a lot, and give us a hard time sometimes. It also seems to be a tad slower.
But it works, and does what we needed to. The whole concept of the Roku is brilliant, and it takes up virtually no space.
