This device, not the Amazon Fire TV stick, has the big bang for the buck. The Fire TV Stick might be less expensive. But the Roku Stick handles everything much better. Its Amazon Video app keeps separate watchlists for your movie and TV offerings--very convenient when you have a large collection of both. Also: Roku has the best app development platform and API of all the streaming devices out there--so that Sling TV works on Roku, and *still* does not work on Amazon Fire TV. (Sling assured me they're trying to work with Amazon to solve this problem. But they agree: Sling, and all apps, just work on Roku.) Roku has preprogrammed buttons for four of the most popular streaming services on the market today. On a suitably equipped TV, a Roku device can force its own selection as the HDMI source if you press the Roku remote. (Warning: you have to connect the device directly to your TV to make this work. I cannot vouch for plugging it into an external switch.) And last: Roku has a special channel that will act as a DLNA client and pull in the content you have stored on your computer(s) or NAS servers. So unless you have a library of optical media, you can give up the separate disk player and play all your internal or external streaming media on one device. What more can you ask?

We bought this because we wanted to save money and drop our cable. The reviews said that this was a great option, especially for the price. This connects to your wi-fi to get the signal. I like the Roku setup and flexibility. It is much cheaper than our cable was before. We bought Sling tv to use with the Roku and we really like the combination. The only negative that we had with the streaming stick is how slow the connection was. The stick was only about 5 feet from our wireless router but we had problems getting a tv show or movie to play straight through. If we were using our computer on the internet at the same time it would get even worse. We ordered the Roku premier+ to see if a LAN connect would work better and it does. The wired connect works flawlessly without any hiccups. I recommend using Roku overall. I think the streaming stick would be best for someone that must rely on a wireless connection for the internet. If you can connect directly to your router then I would recommend using another model of Roku.

It's OK. It would be nice if streaming stick manufacturers would manufacture a stick that fits nicely in one of the HDMI ports BEHIND the TV. Because of the shape of the TV and where the electric cord plugs into, it only works on the side HDMI port of most TVs.

The plug in cord is wide meaning I can't fit two plug in cords into the electrical outlet as the outlet is designed to do.

The power cord is short.

The thing functions as it is intended, its just all the little things like this that bug you. It shows me there is little thinking behind the scenes.

My husband and I purchased this Roku after getting rid of our cable, and opting to sell our Wii console. We never played games on the thing, just used it to watch Netflix or Amazon Video, so it seemed a bit silly to have the console and all of it's little gadgets along. We teetered back and forth between the Roku and the Amazon Fire Stick, and ultimately, Amazon made our choice for us. When we were ready to purchase, the Fire Stick was out of stock, and expected to be out of stock for more than a week. So we just went with the Roku.

Installation was fairly simple, and I had the thing up and running within five minutes. We do keep ours plugged in to the wall outlet, though I understand some people do not. It's fast, and interface is very user friendly, and we were adding and trying out new channels in no time. It's a bit of a bummer how many free channels are slow or filled with ads/useless content, but there are some good ones out there! We aren't huge television watchers, basically just on the weekend. But I have found that I make use of the Roku during the week for various Yoga channels, or just throwing Pandora on.

We don't regret our purchase one bit.

I own a Roku and an Amazon Fire Stick. I personally prefer the Firestone over the Roku. It is so much easier to navigate, especially with the Alexa voice search feature. If you have Amazon Prime, the Firestick is the way to go as well because the Firestick readily displays all the movies, TV shows, etc that are part of the prime membership. One big drawback I've found with streaming devices in general is they are not ideal if you are a sports fan, most specifically a fan of a local major league or pro team. You will not be able to view these games as they are subject to blackout restrictions even with a subscription to channels such as MLB TV. This was a huge thumbs down for me. However, you can view channels such as ESPN and ESPN 2 with a subscription. Also, more than likely you will not be able to access local news stations. The roku also does a little more buffering than the Firestick. It does not plug in to my HDMI port as smoothly either. If I had it to do over, I wouldn't have purchased any streaming device due to the previously mentioned sports and local news issue.

bought this for hotel use when we travel. Most hotels have the in-house system so they don't offer an HDMI option.

However, if you are clever and can move your way around the back of a TV set, or calling the IT person in the hotel (if it is a larger property) you can always make this work.

We love it! It has worked great and fun to have our Roku movies and TV shows always with us, rather than accepting what a hotel offers.

I highly recommend this Roku Streaming Stick. Well worth the money. We don't leave home without it.

Love it. No box to worry about and the cords all hide in the back. With the remote wasn't RF or whatever the new kind is so that I could get a universal, but it got water in it (kids) anyway so we just use the phone app, which is better anyway! Used Roku to cut the cable.
Kind of as a separate review for Roku, make sure you know what is on it and don't assume it will cut the cable. We are lucky because we can use the in-laws cable sign in for a lot of channels.

Not impressed. Had it for over a month and nothing but constant buffering issues. At first I thought it might be my router or maybe Sony Vue issue but now the loading issues are happening on MLB app and Crackle as well as Amazon Video. My data pipe is a fat 100 Mbs and my router is not the issue plus I have an old gen 3 Apple TV that I still have connected to my tv and it has no issues like the Roku. Really wanted to like this slick little stick with its huge number of apps but it's just plain frustrating to deal with all the loading please wait issues and if it ain't doing that I get a Video Error message that freezes up the entire Roku and there's no way to clear it with remote. There's a reason Apple can charge a lot more for their product it just plain works. So I'll be getting a gen 4 Apple TV.

My Roku worked fine for about four months, then I had problems connecting to the device. The Roku USB stick would get very hot, so I unplugged it, and let it cool down for a while. When I plugged it back in, I was instructed to re enter all my setup information, then to go to the Roku website and enter the code displayed on the TV, after entering the code I got the "Error code 1400 call customer service". Well that's where the real problem began.
I called customer service, and was put on hold for over fifteen minutes, I hung up, called again and was put on hold again, this happened several times until someone finally talked to me, then after telling them my problem, I was put on hold again, this was the basic pattern every time I called.
I gave up, it's a good thing I have the Amazon fire stick as a backup, the Roku was a big disappointment, and the customer service is a nightmare.
I would recommend the Amazon fire stick over the Roku, it's lasted a lot longer, and there have been no issues with it up to this point.

I have been using this for about 6 months now. It helped convince me to cut the cord. I now own a Roku Television and a Roku Express. About 2 months ago however, the remote stopped working (seems to be a common problem.) My wife and I can use our phones to navigate the menus, but its more cumbersome than using the remote. But a remote failing is not big deal, until you try to find one for this particular model. I cannot find a replacement on Amazon. And the Roku website has a replacement remote for $20, but last time I checked it was out of stock. Seems a little steep. I would recommend getting a different model rather than chancing getting a faulty remote control that costs way too much to replace.
