Added an image of the carrier attached to our 2013 Suburban. We bought this in a hurry as we were embarking on a 1,500 total mile road trip for Thanksgiving to the mountains and we needed more space than our car-top carrier and interior could hold. It worked perfectly - great capacity/weight and peace of mind with it's sturdiness. We ordered the carrier on Saturday to leave on our trip late Tuesday night. We chose prime to get it here Tuesday, the earliest option - it arrive Monday so we were thrilled to have extra time to sort it out. We had pretty much the same experience as everyone else - the box arrived beat up, not terribly but the 2-piece box lid was loose. The shipper actually hung around for me to check out that the parts/product were all intact. They were so we were ready to pack and roll. Our rear cargo door opens upward and cleared the carrier perfectly so we were able to load the truck rear with the carrier installed. We used product similar to Roll of Non-Slip Sheeting / Mat, 37 cm x 90 cm. Perfect For The Home, Rugs, Car Boot between the carrier and our boxes and between the boxes before strapping everything down so we had the utmost confidence in trekking at high speeds on open highways and low speeds up and around steep mountains. Everything worked to perfection. Reading the reviews here, especially those about being rear-ended with the carrier on, we also ordered the Rola 20174 Red Cargo Carrier Light Kit. The biggest thing I had trouble ascertaining from the product page and other reviews were the dimensions so I will detail those here. The carrier, as you can see in the images, is tapered so that it is wider at the top than it is at the bottom. For cargo to sit securely, it obviously needs to fit inside the tapered space. If you go with the recommended light kit, you lose another inch or two. FOR STORAGE/PARKING Full exterior: 24" length x 61" wide x 5 1/4" deep Full exterior plus hitch: 39" length x 61" wide x 5 1/4" deep Back edge of carrier extended 34" from receiver/truck FOR PACKING Interior without light kit: 22" length x 55" wide x 4 3/4" deep Interior with light kit: 20" length x 55" wide x 4 3/4" deep We did have a cooler I had hoped to pack on the carrier next to the large boxes, but because I didn't have accurate measurements to check/buy another cooler we had to make room for it inside instead - no big deal but we were only about an inch short of being able to load it in the carrier securely. Hope these dimensions help others out. The last note is about parking: when we arrived in the mountains and emptied the cargo, we left the carrier on. In a few retail places, we found extended parking spots which worked great. In a few 2 deep spots, we had to park in the middle taking up a full 2 car-length spot, but in most single spots, we were able to back in letting the carrier overhang grass/median space. No real problems with parking.
