I couldn't find anything in the manual regarding break in procedure, so I did some research and adopted some of the more common methods. First, I poured the entire bottle of oil it came with into the motor. The oil level was perfect. Then I made sure the drain valve was open and I ran it for about 15 minutes, then let it cool. Then I ran it for 30 minutes (valve still open) and let it cool once again. Then I ran it for another 30 minutes before closing the drain valve. I allowed the compressor to reach 60psi before dumping the air to zero psi while running. Did this a couple times. The manual states that you should time the fill process, so I did. It took 1:13 to go from 0 to 130psi, recorded that in the manual. After about 8 hours of usage, I drained the oil and replaced it with high-quality compressor oil to the proper level. I noticed the old fluid had a deep silver tint to it. I think the most important point that manual made was to be sure to start the compressor with no load (drain valve open) until it warms up for a few minutes, then close the valve and begin working.
This is a direct drive so it is loud, but not the loudest I've heard. Because of this design, I cannot dock my rating. This brand/model I chose over the IR twin stack because it had higher output, wheels, and a great fold down handle. The independent contractor reviews were great (including the consumer reviews).
This compressor works fantastic for what I want it to do. It will drive nails (two framing guns) all day long, no problem. It powers my 1,000ft/lb impact wrench like a champ. I would like to see how it performs for spray painting and continuous usage air tools, like a die grinder, but I won't hold my breath. I know this compressor has its limitations.
Built in Vietnam, the build quality is infinitely better than your usual Chinese made product. The unit feels solid.
The only con to this unit, as other have stated, is that the unit is loud. I have it hooked up in my garage that sits at the front of my home and I can hear it while I work in the back behind closed doors. I wouldn't want to work in the same room as this thing for any length of time. A long pneumatic hose and expansion tank lets me work away from the noise which alleviates this problem.
