This story is another N. C. Reed page turner...just like "Odd Billy Todd". Another great yarn with lots of action.
One of the things I like and enjoy about Mr. Reed as an indy author is that; So far, his stories (books) are single stand-alone novels in great length and he brings them to a final conclusion, instead of stretching them out to continued series after series after series. *sigh* For an almost 700 page novel, for $2.99, the reader gets their money's worth from Mr. Reed. This is one of the reasons I follow this author. When he presents a work, it's all inclusive and one knows it's not going to be 120 pages here, another 150 pages there and strung out to 12 freaking episodes, chapters, series books...whatever, and then be charged $2.99 and up for EACH continued series...milking it for all it's worth. I am so over the kinds of authors who can't seem to put together more than 90 pages for $5.99...are you kidding me! Anyway, I admire Mr. Reed for his willingness to write a story to its end, instead of following the normal formula of series chapters. BZ to you, Mr. Reed.
The only negative I have about this book is; Mr. Reed needs to either hire a good editor or take measures to proofread his work before putting it out there. There are so many misspelled words, use of wrong words for the context, missing letters from words...etc, etc. This became quite annoying and distracting, even though the story line kept me turning the pages. I truly like this author. I believe he is a great story teller, albeit, the lack of editing. Mr. Reed...please focus on spelling and grammar, for by doing so, your hard work would receive greater praise, from me anyway.
Even so, I recommend this read if this genre is your interest.
Let’s face the fact that N.C. Reed is a born storyteller. He may not have the repetitive skills of someone like Tom Clancy or <gasp> Nora Roberts, but his stories are just as entertaining and exciting as any they have written.
Having said that, the lack of an editor made me give Roland a four instead of a five. Words in the wrong place, loose instead of lose, nothing really shocking, but enough to be a bit distracting.
Would love to see a sequel about Roland (Paladin) and Susan someday, but only if both survive the book. I’m old, and it’s hard to take favorite characters dying in the end.
