LEDs are very expensive... these COB fixtures carry more wattage in a smaller package - better deflection/reflection hands down for light penetration and "spread" respectively. Big a step in the right direction from my previous G-8 fixtures... with the very 1st crop it made a difference. Reasonably priced compared to many others.... now it is a matter of longevity for me. All I need is 3 yrs out of them and I'm totally sold and WILL update this review each yr of progress
After looking around I decided this COB panel was worth a shot - and I feel once again like I made the right choice, the peppers I have under this thing LOVE it, they were doing fine with a 300w panel before this big guy but now growth has increased by 30% easily. On top of growth speeding up it also brings my tent to a sweet 90-95 degrees fahrenheit without having to mess with circulation beyond what I have. I can not complain - this is exactly what I was hoping I'd receive when I made my purchase.
The 1200 COB runs hotter than lesser wattages, so be prepared to dump some heat, especially if your space is not air-conditioned. But half the heat than even one 400watt MH/HPS would generate.
As to performance, this light covers 4×4 edge-to-edge.Excellent canopy penetration at 20-30".
Must use a 4" vent fan for heat removal.
Plants in veg. & flower respond as well or better than units I have that have 880watts and 11 spectrum range.
But for the loose screw, I would give the 1200 five stars. Even the packaging was first-rate & worth storing for future use.
The COB arrays are definitely a step forward for LED plant lighting. All the Galaxyhydro lights I have; 6 300's, 1 600, and now this 1200COB, have matched the performance of my much more costly American sourced units. This is great news for those with high standards in gardening who also must work within realistic budgets for enjoying the hobby of indoor gardening.
Overall an excellent value. So glad I took the calculated risk purchasing this light entailed.
After completing the latest test of the 1200watt COB
led by Galaxyhydro I can confidently say without any reservations that the new COB light is truly a great step
forward in led applied technology.
Far more intense than one might think and obviously has good spectrum spread as well as great PAR.
The proof is in the very large & extremely dense flowers resulting from this latest cycle.
The COB runs hotter and requires frequent watering and care of plants. While at the same time runs at least
75% cooler than mh or hps.
You can touch it anytime and never burn yourself.
But this light requires venting and/or cooling in confined spaces for certain.
Also as with all leds this light must be close to flowering plants, (10-20"), in order to achieve the densest and most attractive flowers.
Pound for pound equal to 1000watt hps/mh any day.
And because it beams out almost no heat from below,flowers are equal to outdoor quality on a scale & quality level one could only get outdoors previously.
When I bought this "new" "light from China", I was terrified I'd been a sucker & bought a rather expensive bow-wow. Man, was I wrong...
This light covers a 3.5×4' core neatly. As good as my much more expensive US made units and the COB approach produces flowers like I've never gotten from hps/mh or for that matter under traditional 3/5/10 watt led arrays.
I would have never believed what I'm saying here but for the results I'm obtaining. The COB would be nice in large space applications. In the large situation the heat produced would be miminal and the output on these covers and would overlap well. But for the small guy like myself it is truly a welcome innovation in horticultural lighting.
