Incredulity: Callie and Dom meet watching a beautiful sunset at Shenanigan's, a bar known for its sunset views. Callie is a court reporter relaxing after a gruesome case ended. Dom is a rancher. She and Dom fall in love and enjoy several months together before disaster strikes. Dom is on her court docket for first degree murder. She gets information from Frank Kendrick, Special Agent In Charge, Drug Enforcement Administration, to help clear Dom without blowing his cover. Pam Miller is Callie's best friend and a top-notch lawyer. She helps Callie get through this minefield with Dom's case. She helps keeps Callie safe, and on the right side of the law. Suspense builds as a secret informer gives Callie information on the case while it drags through court and clears Dom.
Madame Court Reporter: Mercedes Cruz is staying in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and is desperate for a job. Franco hires her to entertain his guests and be a fake court reporter in his courtroom. After four years, Mercedes wants a way out. Enter Callie. One of Mercedes childhood friends gets her in contact with Frank Kendrick. He gets Callie involved, trained in CIA procedures, and arranges her schedule so she can head to San Juan. Dom backs her, and helps with some special equipment to keep her safe. She verifies the information from Mercedes and they plan to go to a masquerade ball. Things go south from there. Dom to the rescue. Callie is saved from the ocean by Tom, whose daughter is missing. She went to a party and never came home. Ingrid throws Callie overboard. Callie has to recover from a near drowning, but she and Dom make a decision to try and help Tom find his daughter.
Hand In Hand: Callie is back to her court reporter job. There have been a lot of changes and she is assigned to a new judge. The judge makes her job difficult. Callie is hating her job for the first time ever. Callie decided it was time for a change and calls Pam. She retires from the court system and becomes Pam's deposition reporter. Dom is working on finding Tom's missing daughter, Emily. Callie and Dom get in touch with Tom to plan their trip to France so they can hunt for Emily. Gabrielle has details on Ingrid selling "lovebirds" to wealthy men for six hundred thousand American dollars each. She got it from a barmaid Ingrid was rude to. This information is perfectly timed to use. Tom and Gabrielle do the leg work because Ingrid knows what Callie and Dom look like. Dom calls in some ex-Navy SEALs he has worked with before because the operation has grown much larger. The castle Ingrid is using is well-guarded, and has a lot more people inside than expected. The rescue goes down with minor hitches. Emily has been drugged and has a long recovery ahead of her.
All three of the Callie and Dom stories are full of romantic details and tons of background information. Callie and Dom have a full life with family and many friends. Plans they make together for the ranch sound like so much fun. I look forward to more of Callie and Dom.
What makes this a wonderful read? The characters are simple people, living their lives. They are well developed, but we learn more as they learn about each other. Callie has a job, and we share in her feelings for how things can go! Too, Callie is close to my age, so I can especially feel her concerns on certain issues! She is oh so human with her excitement... and her doubts about not only things around her but also her own judgment. Callie and Dom and the others feel so very real. Perhaps they have more excitement in their lives than most of us, but that is the fun of the stories!
Kathy Zebert writes a very nice flowing story with characters we care about. While there is romance brewing, the story is a good clean story! She lets us fill in the gaps ourselves! :) The characters are good people, and that is a nice bonus! The adventures Callie and Dom share are interesting with twists and turns... and they are out doing good things! (I know, I'm not telling much - read it for yourself!)
I was given a free copy, and I am happy to share an honest review. Based on reading this, I am looking forward to more stories from this author!
