Sneak Peek
Enter Romeo.
ROMEO.
He jests at scars that never felt a wound.
Juliet appears above at a window.
But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the east, and Juliet is the sun!
Arise fair sun and kill the envious moon,
Who is already sick and pale with grief,
That thou her maid art far more fair than she.
Be not her maid since she is envious;
Her vestal livery is but sick and green,
And none but fools do wear it; cast it off.
It is my lady, O it is my love!
O, that she knew she were!
She speaks, yet she says nothing. What of that?
Her eye discourses, I will answer it.
I am too bold, ’tis not to me she speaks.
Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven,
Having some business, do entreat her eyes
To twinkle in their spheres till they return.
What if her eyes were there, they in her head?
The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars,
As daylight doth a lamp; her eyes in heaven
Would through the airy region stream so bright
That birds would sing and think it were not night.
See how she leans her cheek upon her hand.
O that I were a glove upon that hand,
That I might touch that cheek.
Synopsis
We are taken to the tragic and romantic realm of Verona in William Shakespeare's timeless classic, 'Romeo and Juliet.' The story unfolds as two young lovers, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, meet at a masquerade ball, setting in motion a tale of forbidden love and star-crossed destiny. Their families, the Montagues and the Capulets, are embroiled in a longstanding feud that threatens to tear the young lovers apart.
Shakespeare's enduring play is not just a romantic tragedy but a masterpiece of literature, exploring themes of love, fate, and the consequences of impulsive actions. It has captivated audiences for generations with its poignant depiction of young love and the dramatic intensity of its characters.
As the drama unfolds, we witness the passionate romance of Romeo and Juliet, the enmity between their families, and the consequences of secrecy and impulsiveness. The play is a vivid example of Shakespeare's masterful storytelling and his ability to craft iconic characters that remain relevant today.
This classic drama follows the journey of a young couple who meet and fall in love despite their families’ objections and eventually succeed in being together, but only under the saddest and most tragic of circumstances.A stunning reprint

It uses the exact language of the play so if you get bored by reading your Folger's Shakespeare then this is a good substitute.
It's cheesy and holds up questionably, so don't take it too seriously. This isn't a rendition that you'd see at the Globe.
If I were to buy it again, then I'd probably get the DVD version if it's cheaper. Looking right now, a used Blu Ray copy is $10 which is a fine price for it.
It blends Shakespeare and modern gangs and affluence together.
John Leguizamo pulls it all together as the Prince of Cats.

For some, it might be "news" that Romeo & Juliet was written by Shakespeare hundreds of years after the saga unfolded -- similar issues exist to this very day .. and kids today are still exposed in school today about Shakespeare .. this is a great version on film to connect what generally confounds young students ( as they question why they have to even know about this play or any of his plays / sonnets )
everyone I've shared this film with ( from highly educated down to young children ) have all enjoyed this little bit of history in a fun way
