I just purchased a 2013 Honda CRV. I elected not to take all the accessories from the dealer as I figured OEM could save me a pile of money. The CRV aftermarket roof rails (made in China) were about 1/3 the price of original equipment. On first inspection , I found there to be slight differences between aftermarket and original Honda. NO INSTRUCTIONS ! You MUST get the proper HONDA instructions off the web. The mounting screws are TORX on original and Hex bolts on aftermarket. The caps over the bolts are snap type on original. They are fastened with sticky tape , on the aftermarket. While installing , I found that the holes in the molding were not perfectly aligned and needed slight drilling. Having said all that, the rails look great and I have ordered Honda original roof cross bars to finish it off.

The good:
1. Very good price (factory rails are like $400.00!!
2. They fit (unlike others, I did NOT need to drill any holes.).
3. They seem to be well made (Ok, they are chromed plastic, but the attachment points for crossbars are metal, so they should be plenty strong.
4. If you get the Honda instructions off the web, you shouldn't have any problems installing them. I was super careful with the instructions on the first side, it took me about 45 minutes. By the second side, I'd figured it out, that side only took me about 10 minutes..

The not-so-good:
1. Another reviewer commented on the color...I agree. Factory chrome trim is shiny. The chrome on these rails is sprayed on, and looks it. Kind of hazy. Is it bad?? Not necessarily. But it doesn't match up with the factory chrome, which bugs me a little. If you are picky, you'll notice, if not so picky, you either won't notice or won't care.
2. Fit: Screws down just fine, and seems quite solid. BUT..the rails are not super-snug along the entire length of the rail (some places along the length there is a very slight gap). I'm guessing with a little heat this summer the plastic might soften up a bit and they might fit just a bit better...I"ll report back.

Overall: If I spent $300.00 more, I could have had Honda brand name racks, and I probably would have been 100% happy. Instead, I still have the extra $300.00 in my pocket, and I'm mostly (maybe 80%) happy. Life is full of compromises. Right now, it is nice to have the extra money to buy accessories for my new roof rails.

Long and short...I'm keeping them. If I have issues going forward, I'll update my post. But, they fit and they work, so I'm keeping them.

I just finished installing a set of these roof rails (3/15). Many of the small issues mentioned in prior reviews seem to be largely resolved. All of the bolts fit perfectly. If there was one small issue it was that I could slip a piece of paper in a small gap above the drivers door. The absence of installation instructions was not an issue. The on-line official Honda CRV instructions worked very well. If I had any issue with the Honda instructions it was that they were too detailed....that is you don't have to follow every word to do a fully acceptable job. The finish on my rails were flawless. Some have complained about incomplete finish. I saw no evidence of that. If you are expecting a chrome finish you may be disappointed. the finish ALMOST perfectly matches the silver color of our silver CRV. The underlying plastic on these rails is nearly the same color. If it were ever to be scratched you probably wouldn't be able to notice it. The quality of the plastic molding is excellent. (I'm a retired plastics engineer.) The rails are heftily made. The areas around the bolt down areas are solid plastic. In my judgement the all plastic construction is better than plastic with aluminum inserts. The bolt covering pads are adhesive instead of removable inserts. Once installed they will have to be pried off instead of being popped off. This isn't a problem for me....I can't think of any reason why I would ever want to remove the roof rails. It took me 3 hours to install these rails. I am not a particularly fast worker. Anyone who has a step stool and a means of cutting the existing vinyl coated aluminum extrusion can do this. (I used a Dremel tool with a cut off wheel.) The really, really great news is I saved over $250 in parts and about $400 in installation costs.Read more ›

I was able to install these rails, and they look very good. The only problem was the drivers side holes did not line up perfectly with the mounting holes on the crv. It was close, but I had to bore a couple of the holes larger to line up with the mounts or the screws would not go into the mounts. The passenger side went on perfectly without any alteration.

I received the item on time. The packaging was durable and everything was packed neatly to prevent damage. Unfortunately, these rails just felt sort of cheap to me. I was planning on putting a Yakima LoadWarrior basket up top which could potentially have quite a bit of weight when loaded.

I decided to pick up some OEM ones from Honda to compare and they did feel a little more durable, so these ones went back. I'm sure they would be more than enough if you were just throwing up some snowboard mounts or something, but I just wanted to play it safe.

Here's the reason for 3 stars on a product that I didn't even keep... customer service folks were very polite and helpful. They gladly authorized the return for me and sent a link to a FedEx prepaid shipping label. When I slacked off and tried to print the label off after the link had expired with FedEx, I just let the seller know, and they authorized another one the next business day.

Even though the plastic did feel a little cheaper than OEM, the visual appearance was almost identical.

Bottom line: If I was going to be carrying a lighter load up top, I probably would have kept these rails.
