From the Back Cover
"This book is not for readers who want to play theologian for a few hours. As the title implies, it's for Christians who want to grow." - Russell Moore, President of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission
Rooted is a great primer on the basics of Christian theology--presented in a way that is fresh, accessible, and concise. A great introduction for new believers and a great refresher for those who need to remember why the gospel really is good news." - Trevin Wax, Managing Editor of The Gospel Project
"The moment you say or think anything about God, you're doing theology. Satan knows more theology than you, but he hates what he knows. And he hates seeing you forget about yourself to gaze on your God. In Rooted, Medders and Smith take us by the hand to show us not just theology's importance, but its beauty. Best of all, you can hear them worshiping as they write. I pray you'll worship as you read." - Matt Smethurst, Managing Editor of The Gospel Coalition

All Christians must first recognize that theology isn't just about study, but rather about knowing God in Christ. We must also recognize that we are all theologians. As the authors state, "we all have thoughts of God, and they are either right or wrong. Theology is all about God: all God is, all he has done, all he does, and all he will do. And the task of theology is that we would speak of God rightly, truthfully, and worshipfully. Theology isn't simply for the mind - it's for life." At just under 150 pages Medders and Smith have provided a helpful primer on Christian doctrine that will guide readers into an understanding of who God is so that we may worship Him rightly. Rooted is divided into four chapters. Chapter One focuses on the Trinity and provides a straightforward look into the roles of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Chapter two focuses on Scripture as God's trustworthy revelation to man. The last section of this chapter "Delighting in God's Truth" is a great encouragement for believers to stay the course and continue to immerse themselves in God's Word. Chapter three focuses on our fall in Adam and our redemption in Christ. A proper understanding on the fall is necessary for a proper understanding of the Gospel and this chapter begins in the garden and then takes the reader to Christ. The last chapter focuses on how the Church should live now in light of our future. Our future in the new heavens and new earth should recalibrate how we live now. I found this book to be an encouragement to read and one that would be quite helpful for discipling new believers.
