I enjoyed how the author added tension to the book, not only in describing the battle scenes, the interaction between the main characters and the enemy, but the doubts that crept into the personal relationships. She did a wonderful job of developing the personalities of all the characters. The plot kept me engaged until the end, even though there were times I wanted to knock Anthony on the head and tell him to have more faith in himself as he develops his doubts when he becomes aware of the third person in a love triangle. There were secondary romances that were resolved beautifully.
This is a story not just of romance, but of war. I enjoyed how the author used fiction to acquaint me with battles I knew nothing about prior to reading this book. I definitely recommend this entire series to anyone who enjoys World War II fiction, especially if they enjoy romance mixed in.
To me, Remembrance is the perfect conclusion to the saga even if, while the story develops, we lose some great characters we have come to love and for whom we would have hoped a less tragic end, but war is war and it inexorably takes its toll. The author effectively describes courage, friendship, the spirit of sacrifice and sense of honour, all those things that war brings out together with cruelty, cowardice and selfishness, because it is in such difficult times that people give the best or the worst of them.
I also liked the part in the novel where Anthony meets his parents-in-law. The encounter with Dean Graham is fantastic, also very touching is the part where Tessa visits New York alone, to pay homage and remember a very dear friend.
"Remembrance" is an absolute page turner, and I hope Ms Kang will bring us many others in the next future.
