The plot: A small town in South Carolina has a burglary problem, the titular Rose Bandit. The Bandit's hit several houses, and there is only one insurance company in town. That company sends Dan Landis, a private detective, to investigate. Except, Dan's a tortured soul. He's haunted by the death of his partner, Maggie. Literally, as she rides shotgun into town. Dan also ends up winning over the local cop, Sam, who takes a special interest in him in return.
Sparks fly as Sam and Dan, a modern day Sam and Diane from Cheers (HA! I wonder if that's intentional...) heat up the pages. Things turn on their head when someone turns up dead, specifically the town's insurance agent. And now, the Bandit is the prime suspect! Well, it's up to Dan and Sam to solve the mystery.
I genuinely enjoyed this book. I read Mims' other book, The Five Santas, first. However, for best experience, read this one first, as the groundwork gets lain nicely. I re-read Santas and even caught a subtle nod to Bandit! With a very big hint at the major twist toward the end of the book! Keep an eye on that one, as I'm sure it'll catch up soon with Dan!
