Rosemary "Mamie" Adkins was born in Houston, Texas, where she spent most of her childhood. Later, the family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where Mamie graduated from Bishop Gorman High School in 1965. From there, they moved to Redding, California for a brief time. Upon turning eighteen, Mamie fled the state and her home and moved around restlessly, until she found a happy place to land in Eugene, Oregon.
Writing had always been a dream but not a reality until she traveled to Ireland. Mamie had always been inspired to write from her own experience in life that filled her being with fear, abuse and abandonment. Those feelings sparked the desire to one day write to help others get out of their abusive worlds. The magical land Ireland inspired Mamie to give it a try and she has never looked back. She had found her writing voice and pursued her dream in the form of a tell-all book about her extensive vacation in the format of a personal account of her travels, complete with tips, locations, photos, pricing, recommendations and so much more. Extraordinary Dreams of an Ireland Traveler is now a sought after account of her travels, used by many who prefer her intimate account to the usual dry, travel literature. The trip was a tribute to her beloved husband Douglas, who had devoted many years to caring for her while she had been so ill.
Before returning from Ireland, Mamie firmly committed to writing her next book, which would be her personal memoirs, an account of her lifetime of physical and mental abuse. Now that she was firmly launched in the writing world, she was ready to pour her heart and soul into her signature piece to leave as a legacy to her family and to help others survive the trauma of abuse. Reflections of Mamie-A Story of Survival becomes a reality in June, 2013 and is available here on Amazon, (as well as through her web site for your signed copies) and with international distribution.
Reflections of Mamie begins at the age of four and takes her readers on her painful, yet sometimes joyful journey through her lifetime of emotional and physical abuse at the hands of her mother. The writing of it was a difficult process as she struggled to unlock the horrific memories of her childhood and younger life, in an effort to finally free herself from the emotional prison that bound her. Mamie grew up unwanted, afraid and abused and she takes her reader on her journey of ultimate survival and love with the family she had always dreamed of.
Reflections of Mamie has been endorsed by several well-known authors and respected medical professionals who have committed to using this book in their own counseling groups. It is a story of survival that imparts hope to those who need to understand that there is a way out of their devastation if they never give up. Donations are made from the sale of her books to help the abused.
Maggie's Kitchen Tails: Dog Treat Recipes and Puppy Tales to Love has been a popular choice from young children to senior citizens alike. It stands alone in adventure stories all based on real life dog stories of the authors personal pets as well as other stories shared from several dog loving people. The recipes are original, tried and tested, made with only human grade ingredients that can be enjoyed by the entire family while being safe for your furry friends.
This warm hearted book is inspired by Maggie Anne herself, who was once badly abused and tossed away like garbage. Mamie and her husband Douglas, felt lucky to have been volunteering at the Kitsap Human Society at the time when Maggie, then known as Dazzle Me, arrived. She was only the age of 9 weeks of age and they could not leave her there. Maggie became part of their family. It has taken over two years before Maggie was no longer afraid of everything, finally healthy but worth every minute spent loving this sweet dog. She has in turn, rescued Mamie as well alerting her to health issues that have saved her own life. This inspired Douglas and Mamie to launch a new book with using Maggie's name and to launch on Maggie's second birthday as a victory of conquering Maggie's fears in life. October 31, 2015 she turned 2 years of age celebrating this wonderful new book and her own line of cookie treat mixes and special gifts found at the on-line store on Maggie's web site. Mamie and Doug convinced their sweet friend, Martha Char Love, who has so much love for dogs and inspired by her grand puppy Momo, to join them in writing of this tribute to abused dogs with the three of them agreeing to donate a portion of their profits to groups that are advocates for abused animals.
