I have Window XP. The instructions for installing was done poorly. They do not match what my computer shows on the screen. Once everything was set up and installed, still not clear how to start each lessons. Do I need to go through set up procedures each time before beginning the lesson? I wish that Rosseta Stone had a customer support team who can help us. I googled to find that any support team is a third party and asking for fees.

I got this for my 6 year old son to learn Japanese more effectively in an engaging way. He's been using this program for 2 months now. I think this method works well, but I've already found lots of typos (mostly missing a letter in a spelled word or phrase). I am a native speaker of Japanese, so I can tell every little flaw. As version 3 is the latest available for Homeschool version, I had no choice. I assume these typos are corrected in version 4 which is available for a standard (personal) version targeted more for adults. I do not think it will be easy to learn Japanese solely with Rosetta Stone, but if used under native speaker's supervision or with other lessons, I think this is a great addition.

It is an older version than a German Rosetta I bought a year and a half ago. It is the classic Rosetta alright, but it is super annoying that it tries to teach you Japanese with the Japanese characters (which look completely alien to me!) and instead to have them use the English characters, you have to switch it over manually each lesson! Let me also just say that for someone who speaks/reads a Romance language natively, trying to take on an Oriental language is no small feat. Common words look alike, simple words translate into long Japanese words, and the phonic system isn't always different but when it is you might have a familiar sounding letter swapped with another. In so many words when using Rosetta for this complex language (from English) I felt very overwhelmed and even tried buying learning aids/ books... But I think I'd need a more hands on approach (and lots of positive reinforcement!). Good luck!

I have wondered for years if Rosetta Stone was worth the price. I have tried to learn Japanese on my own, using a website program for almost a year. In just a few weeks, I have learned more Japanese using Rosetta Stone than I have in the past year with the other program. I have only had one time when RS would not open but after restarting my computer, it was up and running again. I have not tried the home school disk yet. For me, I can now say that Rosetta Stone is worth the price.
