Rosewill SATA to USB and eSATA External Enclosure with Internal 80 millimeter Fan - Black
Need more space?
Try the brand new Rosewill RX-358 V2 BLK! Designed for extra ventilation and enhanced cooling for years of use, it has an 80 millimeter side fan. Air is brought in through the side and directed out the rear, for direct cooling of your drive. You don't have to worry about overheating your hard disk anymore.
Using either USB or eSATA cable, an extra 3.5 inch SATA hard drive (up to 3TB) can connect to your PC without opening the case. The RX-358 V2 BLK is hot swappable, so it can be connected or moved without shutting down the computer. With your eSATA connection, you can see transport speeds up to 3Gb/s! Speed your transfers and lengthen your drive's life with Rosewill!

I bought them because they support 3TB hard drives (under Windows 7 64 bit), which is what I am in fact using with these 2 of these(Hitachi 5400RPMs), plus 1 Seagate 1.5TB @ 7200RPM. You have to format them properly (GPT, not MBR) to get the full 3TB (actually 2.8, but who is counting?).
I also own a couple of the version that includes a USB 3.0 port. I recommend those over this version for the added versatility. The eSATA port is being phased out of the newer notebooks. Transfer rates will be the same regardless because internally this enclosure support SATA 3gbs but not SATA 6gbs.
The Seagate 7200RPM drive was running quite hot in my external USB 3 dock, but is now as cool as a cucumber in this enclosure. The fan makes a difference.
The fan is a bit noisy, but can be turned off, as other reviewers have noted. It is an oddball size (80mm), and therefore cannot be easily replaced, so hope for the best. I suspect the huge metal case will provide pretty good heat dissipation regardless.
The lights are obnoxious, but who cares?
This enclosure is built like a Mac truck. It works well.
I recommend it.
This case came with the eSata cable, along with a device so you can attach the case to a desktop with out having to open the case everytime if you want to use the eSata connection versus the USB 2.0.
I've used about four different hard drives in the case between 1 or 2 TBs and all worked fine. It was easy to swap out the HDDs, even with having to remove 8-10 screws.
Again after looking at other cases I would highly recommend this one for the following reasons:
1. Sturdy case with no issues with craftsmanship.
2. Power supply is durable. It doesn't get hot with the device on for three days, and the connection to the case is a simple plug and fits snuggly with out falling out.
3. It has the necessary cables to use eSata out of the box.
The Rosewill fan is very quiet, and moves enough air to keep my Seagate Barracuda 1.5 TB drives running at a very comfortable 32-34 C in a room that is 26-27 degrees C. And, the fans are so quiet I do not hear them at all in my family room - hopefully they will stay this quiet as the units age. Right now I have to put my head right next to them to hear their low frequency whoosh.
I have one connected via ESATA to my ZyXEL NSA210 Digital Media Storage Server. Two other esata enclosures failed to work reliably with the NSA210, but the Rosewill enclosure with the very same drive is working great.
The second unit is connected vi USB to a Win7 Home 64 bit desktop and thus far is working just as you would expect - quiet and reliable.
- Good connectivity with both esata and USB 2 (USB 3 versions are available)
- USB cable, esata cable, and esata desktop slot bracket included
- Very quiet fan
- Fan can be switched off
- Drives running nice and cool
- Well constructed
- Appearance is definitely in the geek category
- No cradle or feet on the case. It's not tippy but I would be hesitant to set it down directly on a nice piece of furniture.

It's big, it's clunky, the fan is not the quietest around, but it does a great job of protecting and cooling an external hard drive. Read morePublished 18 days ago by dauntless

Works with my 4tb Seagate sshd which I am currently using for my PS4. The fan is very quite and I like the fact that it has a separate switch for it and just isn't on all the time,... Read morePublished 4 months ago by Kyle

The fan is a bit noisy and the LEDs are way too bright. You can turn off the fan, but since this is attached to a DVR, the HD runs 24/7 and it will get hot. Read morePublished 5 months ago by K. Pierce
