On Amazon, these are a cheaper option, and I think if you're buying them for more immediate term coverage then you're good. If you want something that will have the longest shelf life possible and is of a known quality then you're probably better off buying the ones made for civilian distribution - they're shipped direct from the factory and most of them have 4+ shelf years left on them. (see my other reviews for these)
For my need - throwing a few meals in the Jeep that will be eaten sometime over the next 3-6 months after serving as a back up plan just in case I get stranded - they're perfect. If you're buying these for disaster preparedness you probably should spend a few extra dollars and get something that's of a known quality and history.
Coffee is the only thing I didn't fancy out of the powdered drinks. Hot chocolate was very good. Instant lemonade thing too.
The main course is easy to heat, all instructions included inside the meal bag.
I will buy more.
So what's in the meal bag?
1 plastic pouch with instructions on the side and water activated heating element on the inside
1 or 2 sealed pouches with the main course (number of pouches depends on the course)
2 or 3 bags of treat items. It could be bread thing, cookies, pretzel, beef jerky, nuts etc. Be surprised at first, but they will repeat from meal to meal
1 powder drink, Hot Chocolate or Instant Lemondate etc.
1 bag with Coffee-creamer-fake-suger kit, chewing gum, napkins, etc
few bags with condiments depending on the main course, things, like peanut butter, jam, mustard, BBQ souse etc
Stick the meal pouch in the provided heating bag. If meal has two pouches place, the heating element between them and stick the pouches in to the heating bag. Drop a bit of water, don't drown, just enough to activate the heating element. (you will see the instructions and the water line on the bag). Put that bag in to the provided carton thing and set it at 45 degree angle for a few minutes. Careful, stuff is hot.
Open the meal pouch and spoon away.
Did not fancy Beef Brisket. Dog on the other hand found it familiar.
12 complete meals and all the extras, Menu A.
