Editorial Reviews

Review

"It has the feeling of Phantom of the Opera and Moulin Rouge. Theater, singing, dancing, danger, intrigue, and forbidden love. It is all there. A tangled weave... but, that is what makes (Rouge) so great." --Mary, The Sweet Bookshelf Reviews

"Rouge is one heck of a read. I came for the story, and fell deeply in love with everything about it. By the end my mouth was gaping open, my eyes were a little teary, and all I wanted was more book." --Jessica, Hopelessly Devoted Bibliophile Reviews

"Rouge was absolutely amazing! Moore is such a talented writer. Her words make you feel like you are right there in the story, her characters are so believable. If you ever get a chance to read one of her books, do it! You will not be disappointed." --Ashley, The Blogging Book Reviews

Rouge By Leigh T Moore is a well balanced story about Hale, a young woman who has everything to lose inside her small world at the theatre. Though she may the star attraction, behind the scenes nothing is as it should be. She lost her family when she was very young and marrying for love is the last thing on her mind. Her main goal is to escape the brothel type theatre act and protect her young friend from the horrors of making money via non traditional methods.

I fell in love with Hale right away. She is smart, strong, and determined. Her world is a long way away from my own, but I found I connected with her in ways I would never have imagined. Moore does a brilliant job of creating a main character who really comes up off the page. She could be anyone right beside us, even ourselves and Hale faces some of the hardest decisions a woman in her position could make. Love or escape?

I actually adored most of the characters in this book, from the lovely Roland the music man to Teeny the young girl Hale tries to save from the life in the back rooms. Though I think Beau was the most heartbreaking. Moore really draws the reader in with the tension between Hale and Beau. Their near kisses and infatuation with each other is a sure driving force.

However, Moore's writing style is really what brought me in. She knew just when to lengthen the sentences, drawing the tension out, creating conflict in more than just story. She knew when to clip the words just before something happened or spit them out just as things were heating up.

For anyone who is interested in a strong female lead, breathtaking encounters, and a story that is hard to put down, buy this book. You won't regret it.

I am writing this review after literally spending this entire day glued to my Kindle and the lush, rich world of Hale, Teeny, Beau, Roland and all the rest. Moore has an impeccable way of immersing her readers in her characters' lives, and her sense of place is spot-on. The romance was STEAMY, the action was heart-pounding, and the sequel cannot come fast enough. What a brave ending... I am speechless!

I listened to the Rouge audiobook and what a great story! I actually had no idea what the story was about when I first selected it on my iPod, but I was certainly pleased with my pick! Rouge tells the story of Hale Ferrer, the rising star of the hottest cabaret in New Orleans. Hale has many struggles and most are caused by her choice to take in the young orphan Teeny. Usually when characters are the cause of their own problems I get frustrated, but I found Hale's commitment to taking care of Teeny to be very honorable. I admired her willingness to do what was necessary for the good of others. The setting of Rouge was another thing that caught my fancy. I can't recall ever having read a book set in New Orleans. This is really where the narrator shined, she had the perfect accent to show the Southern setting without it being over the top. Now add in some charming gentlemen (Beau, Freddie, and Roland) to the mix and you've got a book for me! I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Rouge is one of the most powerful books I have ever read. It is beautiful and heart breaking. It made me just as sad as it did happy. I have become attached to the characters and wish the best for the "good" ones and bad endings for the "bad guys". I can't wait til the next in the series comes out. I am beyond excited for book two in this series. Rouge gets a 4.5 out of 5 stars, and Ms. Moore gets my sincere appreciation and admiration. Terrific writing.

I really enjoyed this story!!! It was unlike anything I've read before.

It would have been a 5 star read for me had it been disclosed this book was part of a series. It would have been even better had this book been a complete story (Beginning -Middle-END). Nothing annoys me more than expecting closure, and getting to the end of a book, only to realize, it's one of those "to be continued" things. I don't like reading a series until all the books in the series are released. Simply because I read a lot, and by the time book 2 comes out, I will have no interest in picking back up where it left off.

This story was moving and had a lot of potential. It had a unique charm to it that made this a real page turner.

How much did I pay for this: 2.99
Was it worth it: yes
Would I read this again: No
Will I read more of this series: Doubtful
Would I recommend: Yes

This book provides an intriguing look inside a New Orleans cabaret, where the ladies are also pressed into service in the back room brothel. Hale, who has lived in the cabaret since birth and is now a star performer there, has been spared that fate because of a promise the owner made to her dying mother. But that promise doesn't extend to Teeny, the orphan under Hale's care. Teeny is growing up much too fast, and Hale has to get her away before it's too late, But how? And where?

Moore creates a terrific cast of characters and spins a memorable tale of violence and danger, love and sacrifice. I only have one beef with this book. The ending. That CAN'T be the end of Hale's tale! There's gotta be more of her story to tell, and I sincerely hope Moore writes another book that tells it. (And soon!)
