These two just click. They know it from the start, they feel it in their bones and acting on their instincts to be together is the only logical choice for them. Greyson is strong and independent. I admire her sense of self and need to be supportive and giving even in the darkest of times. Caden is smart, oh so sexy and royally messed up. Little does he know that leaving the military to live a civilian life will be more difficult than he ever imagined. The love and devotion Caden and Greyson have for one another and their relationship is larger than life. The question is, will this all-consuming love be enough to get them through what will be the hardest battle of their lives?!?
Caden and Greyson own me and having to wait for remaining books is slow torture. Even so, I have no doubt that CD Reiss will make it worth the wait. Yes, this is a series, but luckily, she is not going to make us twiddle our thumbs for months and months in anticipation of what I’m sure will be an epic conclusion. If you are looking for a story that will grab your attention from Page 1 and keep you guessing, swooning, excited and bewildered you need to #OncClick now!
"We're going to build an entire life out of war."
Greyson and Caden are ex-military living as civilians and life is hard to adjust to. They have the best that NYC can offer them, but something is different and something is grabbing at Caden. While Greyson may fear what it is doing to her husband, she also relishes in it and it gives her something she might never have known she wanted. But to what lengths will they both go to keep each other happy?
"I needed her. Before her, I had been made of broken glass in a padded bag. Everything looked fine on the outside, but I'd been cutting myself."
This book was just WOW! Something with bite, grit, beauty, pain and everything in between. It grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go. If you're a fan of the Submission Series or of romance with a step into the dark, You'll feel right at home. I'm excited to see Greyson and Caden's journey and to experience the outcome throughout these books.
I struggled with the rating of this book, 3, 4 or 5 stars. Ended up going with 5 because any book like this that can keep me actually reading it has earned those 5 stars. Very well written, but definitely intense, so get ready for the ride!

“How’s your thigh?” he asked when we were alone in the elevator. “Nice contusion.” “Muscular or dermal?” “Subcutaneous.” He nodded, hands folded together in front of him. “I’ll be more careful next time.”
"Before I could talk about agency, autonomy, and acceptance, he grabbed my hand and squeezed it. For a month, his touch outside our home had gotten rare, and it froze me. When I squeezed back, he put his hand back on the wheel to pull the car up to the valet. My fingers were left alone to make their own sense of him."
"Ronin had finished basic and been stationed in Maryland. He wouldn’t say where, but I knew it was the Aberdeen Proving Ground. He knew I knew and neither confirmed nor denied what he did for a living."
I'll leave you with this gem 💎:
"Ronin had been a handsome man in basic training, but his eyes had matured from simply piercing to devastating, and his conceit had ripened into confidence."
It just left me feeling - WTF?? 🤣 😂 Nonsensical nonsense; words for the sake of words. Filler. And I couldn't care less about any of the characters. I felt nothing for them. Occasionally difficult to tell who's saying what; who's speaking the 'lines'. Hard to follow.
Wouldn't recommend it to lovers of dark and delicious; it's just too odd.
Reiss' writing has improved dramatically since her Songs of Submission series and she is now one of the top in the indie community, without a doubt. The emotion (and lack thereof) flowed through every single word within these pages and I was utterly blown away.
This is not for the faint-hearted. Lines were walked and crossed, particularly between abuse and BDSM, but the way it was handled was immaculate and the anxiety it caused completely intentional. My brain and my emotions were all over the place: horrified, aroused, disbelieving...you name it.
Absolutely, absolutely incredible.
Caden and Greyson are a conundrum. I started the book with one opinion of them and their situation, yet ended it questioning my early judgement. Just who is driving the situation? Which is the cause and which is the effect? An interesting and unexpected thought I’m still musing over.
The characters, the storyline, the whole writing style is exquisite. I’m drawn into the story as though I’m a voyeur watching it unfold in front of me. I just know that this series will stay with me for a long time. Which is just as well, because I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of this couple. Simply stunning.
With Rough Edge, you are immediately involved with these two amazing characters, Greyson, a psychiatrist newly retired from the military and her husband Caden, a heart surgeon who did a short voluntary stint as a doctor for the military, kind of like a contractor. They met, fell in love and we meet them as Greyson comes home to Caden. Both are establishing private practices. My advice for you readers is: just read it fully in the moment. Do not try and get ahead of the story. Don’t try and puzzle out where CD Reiss is taking this story and these characters. Just watch them. Listen to them. Observe them. Immerse yourself. The edges are rough but they’ll cut into you just enough to give you a bite of pain and lust for more.
